ModeratorHi Branden,
On the blog you can look in the archive for some (pretty recent) articles on music collections (including places to go to find music) and obviously if you do some searches here on the forum you will find plenty as well. There was a thread not to long ago about music pools.
Good luck & greetinx,
Chuck

ParticipantProblem is with most of those websites that I checked out, they were very expensive and since I’m not a radio or professional DJ, they rejected me as a customer.

KeymasterWell then you have to do it the old way… dig through tunes and buy some from iTunes…

ParticipantI have tried DJ City and was well happy with that… had a good backcatalogue but unfortunately due to lack of gigs i had to drop it. When i get my gigs sorted again i wanna try DMS Direct Music Service as it looks quite good but also expensive im afraid.

Participantwhat do you mean by dj pools btw?
I assume you don’t mean simply using on online stores like beatport?

ParticipantI use bpmsupreme.com and i like it. 20$/month for a lot of stuff and song versions, including videos.
The negative point is that they don’t have a lot of older stuff but they’re working on it.

Keymastersilvercue: DJ Pools are pools that distribute music for DJs.
First thing they require you to do is to prove to them that you are indeed a DJ playing publicly, so you cannot just signup.
Then you play a monthly fee and for that you can download (most of them do it like that) as much songs as you like. The thing is that most of them offer different styles and quality of music selection as there are quite a few out there.
The other thing is, the pool has to pay fees to the labels and hence your subscription is not cheap, most good quality pools cost at least 20 to 30 bucks a month.
Now using them is a bit of controversy in the DJ community. Of course using one is quite convenient as you can simply download the newest songs every month and no need to worry what is really good…
Then there are other DJs who feel that less is more, they limit themselves to the songs that are 100% only the best tracks to DJ with in their opinion. Which often comes down to 2-10 songs per month. With most songs being around 1 dollar that is 10-15 dollars spent a month on iTunes or beatport, which is significantly less than a DJ pool subscription…
You have to decide on your own what type of DJ you are, in my experience younger DJs love pools as they love huge amounts of music… Older DJs already have too much music and are more focused on quality…

ParticipantI am currently with digitaldjpool.com
This is $1 for 5 days trial and then $12/month afterwards.
I signed up for the trial and one month just to see whether it was worth it
Can cancel at anytime (providing more that 48 hours before the next monthly payment is due)
Currently sifting through and downloading approximately ten tracks a day, to build the collection and listen to new things.

ParticipantAny thoughts on Virtual DJ’s ContentUnlimited service?
It’s only $10 a month, but it uses Grooveshark, which as I understand it, relies on its users to upload their own music which makes it not-perfectly-legal.

Participantwhat about franchise record pool? has anyone heard feedback on that?

ParticipantI use Franchise Record Pool. It’s FunkMaster Flexx’s Record Pool. Its very good for Hip-Hop and R&B. Other Genres are there as well. I usually find myself digging through the Hip-Hop and R&B stuff. Good selection of Acapellas and Instrumentals as well as INTR/OUTRO versions of songs.
