ModeratorApple DJay? I am assuming you mean Algoriddims DJay?
And then you mean the Pro version that runs on an Apple MacBook (OSX)? Or are you looking for the version that run on iOS-devices (iPad/iPhone)?
What I can say already, is that there is no “best”, “default” or must-have controller for any kind of software for DJ-ing. It’s a highly personaly choice.
The offering is roughly divided in three segments if you like:
1) Budget/consumer gear (lot’s of low end gear for little money). As the name suggests primarily aimed at people wanting to play around with this stuff at home and perhaps do two parties in their backyard or living room a year. While not advisable to use this if you have ambitions that go beyond that, there are enough people who have used this kind of gear to get their feet wet and/or to determine if DJ-ing is for them at all and/or to start figuring out a workflow that might help guide them to a better choice when they buy their first upgrade. Don’t expect major features and great soundcards or super build quality. You get what you pay for.
2) Mainstream/prosumer. Clearly the next level up. All controllers in this segment have decent to good soundcards (and all pretty much good enough to play out at venues), most of the necessary features, decent build quality (although often still lots of -high quality- plastics) and are from reputable brands. Subdivided into beginner/starter controllers, intermediate and exotics (like a controller that is all about touch control for example). Prices ranging roughly from 250 to 650 or so euros.
3) High-End/professional. Here you will find the flagships of all manufacturers. All the features, best soundcards, high build quality (lots more metal and high-end components like faders and buttons). These units can be and are used by people going out and playing regular paid gigs. Prices from around the 650 euro mark upwards, with the current top (pricewise) being the DDJ-SZ which ticks over a tad under 2.000 euro. There have been entire volumes written on this forum and over on the blog about the process to determine what software and gear you need and in what order you should go about it.
At the end it’s a highly personal choice out of -usually- a pretty broad spectrum of choices.
If you tell us a little more at why you are looking at DJay, what your goals/ambitions are, what you are trying to achieve, we might be able to offer a little more specific advice.
As always, this reflects just my personal opinion.

BlockedThanks Vintage! for your response.
I’m a veteran in deejaying, with a long career as a professional. I was lucky enough to start with a pair of 1200 and a trashy mixer, back in the glorious 80s.
I’m not in playing gigs as a professional any more, I eventually play in venues but now is just for fun for an audience of mainly friends.
Last piece of equipment I bought was a pair of Pioneer CDJ 1000 MK2. That’s where I stopped buying new equipment.
I’m totally new in laptop-controller djing and as I am not in the business any more, my aim is only personal fun.
I find Algoriddims DJay (you’re right, not Apple’s) very good. I play it in my laptop, no controller at all.
So what should I choose If I have a mid-range budget. I don’t want entry-level toys… don’t need the state of the art.
Any controller will match with may MacBook Pro and Djay Pro installed?
Thanks again!!!
(sorry for my bad english, not my mother language, spanish is)

Participantsee….. in the end it’s going to be ur personal choice… i can only recommend u the reloop beatpad, or the pioneer ddj-wego 3. both are very good controllers and the reloop beatpad also looks and feels premium.
but i would advise u to download the controller buyer’s guide which is for free…. that would really help u in making ur choice 🙂

BlockedOk! Thanks Spars, Vintage, for your responses!!
One last question: What should be the best of the best choice of a controller, if you had a decent budget, for Djay Pro software and a MacBook Pro.
By now, I have an idea, but. What would you, professionals, do?
thanks again!
