    Hi Otus,

What you fail to tell us is what the shortcomings are of your current controller. Is the controller holding you back? Have you completely mastered the features on your current controller that you want to be able to use?

More importantly, have you played out yet? Knowing your controller and software is important and practicing is paramount. Learning how to truly DJ though is something done outside playing for real people. Personally I’d always opt for the “simpler” controller that I know well/intimately when going to my first parties, instead of going there with a full bells and whistle model that has me more worried about using it correctly than spending time watching what happens when I pick the tracks to play for my audience.

Just my two cents of course.

as vintage highlighted, u need to recognize ur workflow and what u want from ur controller….. based on that u will be able to make a clear decision

Why not stay with the Mixtrack Pro 2 for now and add a reloop Neon for spiced up workflow… cheaper than the upgrade…

    OTUS,

Vintage makes a really good point. Mixtrack ProII is a great controller. It was my first controller. I would focus on things like professional gig bags, cases, a great light set up (if you’re thrifty, amazon has some great pics that do the trick for minimal cost). and stands. While I own the DDJ-SX2, I could do the same job on the Mixtrack ProII no problem. I just so happen to like the SX2 a lot better due to it’s quality of build and flexibility. Though to be honest, I don’t know how to use half the functions haha. (Working on it!)

Professionalism is about meeting the customers need and being attentive to their needs. Showing up on time and doing the scope of work expected. Long as everyone is having fun, music is loud and sounds great, good lights to make it feel like a party, You will do just fine with your current controller.

IMO Buy a Sub. Not a new controller.

    Wow, thanks for the feedback.

To be perfectly honest, I am not really interested in doing giggs right now. I prefer just playing what I enjoy and if other people enjoy it too thats cool. I would prefer to do radio more than clubs. And If I were to do a gig, is a mixtrack pro an acceptable bit of gear?

I like the idea of adding a reloop neon, im going to look into that more.

    Any suggestions on the sub?

Depends on the venue as to whether the Mixtrack Pro is an acceptable bit of gear. It is definetely a “prosumer” controller rather than a “professional” controller.

However, don’t let this put you off. Go for it – and if you absolutely rock it then no one will complain about your gear.. apart from snobs.. 🙂

    Good Luck 🙂

Sub, as in anything PA related, “you get what you pay for”. Now there is exteremely expensive stuff that does sound better than less expensive stuff, but not by much. It’s a progressive scale though.

So going from totally hopeless no-name “great offers” on Amazon (250 dollar 2000W 15″ active fullrange anyone?) to say a 500 dollar active speaker from a budget brand will already sound lots better. Not great, but it’s well worth your money. Move up to 1000 dollar active speakers and you have reached pro range. You have great sound quality, build quality, highly efficient speakers that will do the job for years to come.

Then you can move up to 2000 dollar speakers from the highest end brands. Sound quality and such won’t really get all that much better (the progressive scale flattens as the prices increase), but components might be slightly better, build quality a bit sturdier, you might pay a bit more for the name and often the extra price is justified by the company’s customer services and such.

So, my advice (as usual just my two cents), stay away from the “sounds too good to be true” offers as they ALWAYS are just that. Skip the intermediate gear but rent gear til you can own your own high quality gear (and only when you play out often enough to recoup your investment in 14 to 16 months).

If you are looking for a sub for your practice room, anything that matches your monitor speakers (if you are on KRK, the KRK 10″ sub is worth the money) will do. I prefer to stay with the same brand and the recommended sub, just cause the match will usually be better.

Thanks Bob, something to think about.

Vintage, again, thanks for the input, always appreciated. I think that considering my first set up cost under £200 for the speakers and controller I dont want to be spending loads on a sub just yet. As I metnioned, I currently have a pair of 4″ M Audio Studio Monitors. Should I be looking at a single sub? Possibly

    Thanks

And will I also need an additional audio interface now? Or will that be ok?

Yep, single sub should suffice for home/practice room use. If you get the right sub, it will have a crossover built in. You go stereo master in to your sub and then out to the satellites, no need for an extra sound card.

Will the m audio bx subwoofer be ok?

Yeah, check if there is a particular model specifically made to match your particular M-Audio speakers.
