In a similar position here. Obviously there is always room for improvement. But I am confident about my ability to mix for a dance floor. I really want to learn scratching, but on the DJC.4 its tough. I keep coming to the conclusion that I need to upgrade/expand the hardware. I dont like that conclusion, but it is what I keep coming back to.
I see a lot of DJs using Ableton with a launchpad, mpc’s, or other hardware. But that would be a big step and alot of money. I am also slowly teaching myself how to play piano and am learning production techniques, but that is a whole other discussion.
@DjSoviet I think its a matter of starting to get better/bigger and more interesting/dynamic gigs. I go to school in Rochester New York, and am working at trying to start some kind of scene for music outside of TOP40. I feel like the possibility for getting creative in front of a audience with your mixing and music would be much greater in a ‘underground’ or ‘off the beaten path’ club scene that at your classic TOP 40 bar/club.
