I would seriously recommend looking into the iDJ Pro (Numark). Although the software it comes with, Algoriddim’s DJay, isn’t my favorite (I switched to DJ Player since it has a native mapping for it since the last release).

It does pack quite a punch, pretty much all the basic buttons and faders are there. It’s not super small, but I know there are backpacks that it would fit in. Since the iPad sits INSIDE the controller and becomes an integral part of it, you can just toss it on any flat surface without having to worry about where to keep your laptop, people knocking something off the table and such. No extra cables or power outlets necessary, your iPad gets charged while playing. All you need to bring is the iDJ Pro, two signal cables to the active speakers, a mic and mic cable and you are good to go.

The software determines the FX and I think they are pretty decent in DJ Player, read the review on it and on the latest release of DJAY on the blog here.

The only “drawback” is the lack of channel faders, instead you have two (rather large) rotary knobs with led rings around them. I find myself using the x-fader a little more than I usually though, but the rotary knobs work pretty good as well quite frankly.

As for weight, it weighs in at about 5 1/2 lbs, that’s without the iPad obviously.

I hope you are not planning on getting those active speakers in your backpack too though!

Almost forgot, if you are comfortable using the iPad exclusively, the Native Instruments Z1 is a nice little mixer to have. But no jogs or any other player controls, you’d need other bits and pieces of the modular setup, which means extra cables, a usb hub, etx.

That is an awesome unit too :D…But i didnt make this clear…I have a iPad Mini :D. So that unit i cant use. But i Dont mind not having Jog Wheels…I just need something to mix well and it can also be modular. I love the Native Instruments Z1. I was thinking of something along those lines. But Chuck I love your Comments, keep them coming..thanks 🙂

And oh….I forgot to mention…The speakers must be in the same bag too;). EX: Magma backpack, or a really good Laptop Bag. This system will be a mini version of what my big stuff is. Im just looking for ideas and what peoples thoughts are. Thanks all.

Well I consider my backpack really small for small gigs.
Magma Backpack with: MacBook Air, USB Cable, Crane Stand + Controller + 2 Cables to hook up + some adaptors.

I guess you can do it with any controller and still be backpack sized and do not need a second setup.

However if you really want to go minimal, prolly a small Pioneer Controller, their iPad Cable, but I guess you need to run djay for that on the iPad and prolly need a stand for the ipad. You still need the cables… I cannot see the real size benefit when I can easily carry the above in one backpack too and have my usual setup with me.
I mean my controller is pretty big (Terminal Mix 4) and I still have no problem (ok the MacBook Air is quite small).

You DID get the part where he wanted his speakers to fit in the backpack too, right?

Sorry but the HDMX speakers are not for a small party, they are if 5 people are sitting directly in front of you… there are no “real” speakers that fit in a backpack.

Well for this…it was just an idea…and for this little thing I did, in a home..they did just enough to get people into a groove. :). But any ideas for speakers then?

as minimal as possible you can go with a mini pa like this http://www.musiciansfriend.com/pro-audio/behringer-eurolive-b205d-active-pa-monitor-speaker

mackie has the same thing just more $$$ http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/SRM150?utm_source=Google&utm_medium=PPC&utm_campaign=livesound&device=c&network=g&matchtype=&gclid=CLHc94Pmj7kCFRGg4Aoda3MAgA

hook up a mic of your choice, and the ipad mini w the djay app.(or your app of choice) both those speakers have rca, mic inputs/line, very versatile little speakers w plenty volume. even has a pole mount.

THATS AWESOME!! I also seen the Numark NPM-100 Monitor as well. If i cant get it into one bag i can fit one more with the 2 monitors in it.;) I just like the concept of the mini party. And a ample system to do alittle more if need be. But for just having the HDMX Jam Party Boombox…It did its thing in a pinch;) But Im still looking for Ideas, Thanks DJ SpecializED. 😉

If you are getting two NPM100s, count on a backpack with sturdy straps, the things are heavy! LOL
