The worst thing is in the cold: Condensing water inside your gear.
    There are those heat thingies:

However you need them to be placed correctly so you do not get water in the end.
The cold is really not the problem, but static charges and condensing water… it also depends how the whole setup looks, how much wind there is etc. so there is no definitive answer what to do.

    I’ll accept no definitive answer.
Yea, static charges and condensation, worthy adversary’s indeed.

By which case what about storing speakers and cables, gear etc in a cold garage. What are your thoughts on that? most of what I’ve read says just warm it up slowly when you plug in.

I had to play a warm up set in a ski resort back in the days of turntables and vinyl. I plyed the first track and started to beatmatch the second track. The needle skipped, do I had to re-inspect the tonearm, but the needle kept on sliding out of the groove, so dropping the 2nd track went wrong. Apparently , the cold had “frozen” the needles. So if possible, keep your needles warm untill it’s time for your set.

But hey, nobody plays vinyl anymore, just the ramblings of an old timer…

Try looking at one of those heaters they use in houses to dehumidify/dry concrete flooring and such. They are low (no need to have a heat umbrella over your head 😀 ) and can change the temperature and the moisture for large areas at once (there is ventilation = moving air, rather than just radiation). Set up in an e-z up tent or something, attach three sidewalls (if at possible set up so that whatever wind is blowing comes to you from behind/side) stick the heater thingy in the back 30 minutes before you start and I think you will find that you have a reasonably comfortable place to do your thing.
