You mean monitor/booth speakers I guess?
That depends on the venue. Some venues you can get away without them, some have them in place anyways and in some you will need it.
If I need it I do not take my studio monitors (also Rockits) as they are “near field” and hence I would have to be close to them all the time. In the booth I prefer PA monitors placed at the far sides of the booth, so I can move around freely.
Since many DJ setups are mono, in some cases I only have one monitor on one side, some other DJs however told me they get seasick from that setup hehe
I cannot recommend a specific brand, but I had monitors from JBL, Mackie, HK Audio and Peavey. They all worked well.

If you’re playing in a proper club venue the chances are the monitors will be LOUD so I wouldn’t take your studio monitors or they will likely get wrecked.

Monitors are pretty useful to use while “in the mix”. The main club speakers are often pointing away from you and sometimes there is a delay between what you hear and what the rest of the club hears – makes for interesting times while cueing! Monitors help you to get around this problem.

Plus, like you say, you can hear things more clearly when the speakers are pointing at you.

I’m not sure if you’re doing a gig at a venue (club, pub, etc.) that will already have speakers in place, or one where you’ll take your own PA speakers, but Phil uploaded a video on Youtube this week explaining that your PA speakers can double up as your monitors depending on the set up.

I also have a rockit 6 pair and I would like to know Why it’s said that this speakers aren’t good for partys? Is the reason that they are near field and you couldn’t hear well far from them.
