MemberI think it’s in all of us to be perfect. It’s funny because sometimes whenever I listen to my recorded sets I play I public, they sound much better that when I’m actually trying to record on my own at home. I think the problem is I overthink when I’m at home but in public I just go with the flow.

MemberI think your more relaxed when playing out, maybe playing at home to record adds an element of pressure?

A few month back everyone played a club for a mates birthday, a very popular guy so everyone wanted to play, two rooms and more then enough DJ’s, when another mate rang and said he wished he could get a slot. I rang birthday boy and pleaded with him to sort something.
A slot was eased in and he rang me to thank me, so i asked what set he planned…. Mate:” Oh nothing planed, just gonna bring my record bag and me” Me: “you are aware everyone else has been sweating over sets all month?” Mate: “No problem!”I swear on my life his was the best set of the night, and EVERYONE played an absolute blinder, played their heart out, his just had an extra spark… Dunno if if it was because i knew he was winging it or what, it was simply amazing!
I have a recording of that set i can sendspace if anyone is interested 😉I am Attempting to be ‘More Prepared’ now with my Radio Shows; so when the Hosts sends ‘The Message’ I have something for him; but I was a bit behind a couple of months ago; and spent 27 Hours Perfecting a 2 Hour Set !
It was an Utter Nightmare; but it did come out ‘Perfect’ in the end;
But I have a Second Soundcloud Account which is just for my Dubstep Mixes and Remixes (Reslices I call them :));
And with these Mixes I just ‘Do them’; they are Always Great; but I give myself the Freedom to Express Myself (as I have Fun) 🙂
And Yes; I would like to hear that Set from the night your talk about 🙂June 30, 2011 at 11:29 am #1965U31

This is an Amazing Mix !!
Full of Twists and Turns; and Incredible Foresight in Choice Of Tracks :cool:;
I Loved to hear the ’90’s Tracks that I still play now;
And to hear a Suzi Quatro Track Mixed in was just Genius :);
Thank You allowing me to hear it my Friend;July 4, 2011 at 11:24 pm #2869DJS
Member@Emma: Had a listen to your mix and it was lovely. Really smooth and fun. I’m forever banging out mixes and get incredibly frustrated when the mix doesn’t go well. I have to leave it and come back but usually I’ve gone off the boil by then and have to wait until I feel the groove again.

Hello my Friend 🙂
Thank You for your Compliment regarding my Deep House Mix :cool:;
I know Exactly what you mean when you say that you get ‘Frustrated’; and feel that you have ‘Gone Off The Boil’ when you go back to it; this happens to me So Much;
It is Such A Challenge when we are ‘Really In The Mood’ but there just aren’t ‘Enough Hours In The Day’;
I remember when I lived ‘Alone’ and had the Opportunity to Mix until I was ‘Finished’; but am now Restricted to around 4 hours a day; and of course; although I have Templates set up and am Virtually ‘Ready To Go’; having So Many Tracks to Choose From is a ‘Big Disadvantage’; as sometimes I can Bang 4 Transitions Straight Out; but then end up ‘Browsing’ for sometimes Hours; and Getting Nowhere;
The Most Successful Approach I have found (in recent months); is the one I used for the Deep House Set you heard;
What I decided to do was to pull out 11 Tracks; Shut My Browser; and ‘Work with What I Had’; of course ‘I Wanted’ to pull something else in from ‘My Collection’ (through Habitual Practice); but I Stayed Strong;
Another piece of ‘Best Practice’ that I use is to Always Leave the Set (when my Hours are up) following a Great Transition; it is again ‘Always Tempting’ to Continue to the Next Transition ‘As The Mood Is Hot’; but if I can go back to the Set having (for instance) 35 minutes of the 60 Complete; the ‘Thought’ of knowing that I just have 25 minutes to go; gives me a ‘Further/Fresh Boost’ which I find ‘Motivating’;
However; although I may be in the Middle of a Set; if I have had a Bad Day; Felt Upset; or Feel ‘Bored’; it is then time to ‘Continue Practising My Art’ but in a Different Manner; say by Learning More about a VST or Synth; or just Brushing Up on some Tutorials 🙂January 8, 2012 at 8:07 pm #12539Dj Neonglass
ParticipantWhen i make a long mix & i listen it back and discover a tiny inperfection; i’m gonna change order of the tracks @ the point of the inperfection of the mix. And record the whole mix over again, till i.m satisfied about the end result. It’s also an learning process,to gain more experience as Dj.

Participantive heard top djs f&$k up on a mix but the crowd didnt care as long as the set is well produced and a semblance of you knowing wot you are doing is applied.you use keynotes and bpm matching so your mix shud be fine as long as the tracks you play have a nice transistion and sound good.i too am a perfectionist but utopia is impossible these days,as some people will hear faults where others dont.anyway good luck.
