I will send it off tonight then; and Thank You for taking the time to listen 🙂June 27, 2011 at 7:56 pm #1000478Rob Francis
MemberHi Emma,
I don’t think any non-DJ listeners would notice anything wrong with it. Even amongst DJs I’d be surprised if that many did either!.Nothing wrong with being a perfectionist, it means you take pride in your work.

MemberWe hear EVERYTHING through them ‘Phones , the audience doesn’t, i think that’s why to us we notice every nuance, but everyone else misses it as stated, a dj MIGHT notice, but he’d just nod his / her head and think “Yup” you’re human too!
recording is different to live too, you get away with loads live but because you know anyone can hit rewind it makes you super critical.
A mate recorded his set from one of our nights and slipped a CD of it in to all our Chrimbo cards – and it was as fantastic as the night it was played
A couple of days later another cd came in the post asking to destroy the original as he wasnt happy and he’d run it through Cubase to correct it. This guy is a top name DJ in the north of England by the way… If he can find fault then heaven help all us lotJune 28, 2011 at 4:44 pm #1362DJVendetta
MemberTell me about it! I spend wayyyy too long trying to find a song that fits perfectly with the one I’m currently on in a mix. Sometimes I spend an hour or two trying to find ONE song…

MemberI need to start freestyling a bit more. I hardly ever do. I find it’s risky not having a pre-planned set because some songs that you think will go together do not at all and then you get a trainwreck. It’s hard to find the motivation to just freestyle in my room on my own, that’s why I only really do planned mixes, I guess I need to start playing out.

MemberGettin out of the trainwreck live is half the fun tho…
At the time of this set Id just bought and / or blagged from mates, these choons, I played them for listening to, but never played em in a set before, so i threw em together to see what came out, see what you think?
Sometimes you just gotta wing it.June 28, 2011 at 5:30 pm #1375U31
MemberAlright alright, i cheated with the Wood Allen/ Gentlon combination, this was always a classic pairing for those old enough to to remember BITD 😉
Sitting here in the cold light of sobriety Tone Zone to Wood allen was a total train wreck, that would have been better as a cut rather then transition, but hey ho that’s how it goes 😀June 28, 2011 at 9:25 pm #1459Emma Partnow

MemberEmma, i have mates (Still vinyl junkies) that are FAR more technically adept then me, but they stress days before a gig right up up to the gig, practice, set lists, more practice more set list tweaking… even during the practice they wont drop a beat all night, yet they still stress about perfection.
A few month back everyone played a club for a mates birthday, a very popular guy so everyone wanted to play, two rooms and more then enough DJ’s, when another mate rang and said he wished he could get a slot. I rang birthday boy and pleaded with him to sort something.
A slot was eased in and he rang me to thank me, so i asked what set he planned…. Mate:” Oh nothing planed, just gonna bring my record bag and me” Me: “you are aware everyone else has been sweating over sets all month?” Mate: “No problem!”I swear on my life his was the best set of the night, and EVERYONE played an absolute blinder, played their heart out, his just had an extra spark… Dunno if if it was because i knew he was winging it or what, it was simply amazing!
I have a recording of that set i can sendspace if anyone is interested 😉June 29, 2011 at 7:59 am #1593U31
MemberLol he says as he works on this Saturdays set …

MemberI hate to admit it, but perfectionism is what has prevented me from releasing my mixtapes so far. I should just bite the bullet and record a mix.
And now I think of it, I had a mix this afternoon and it was technically perfect….. am I OCD of something? :p
