    I’ve been producing on and off for a year. Haven’t gotten much yet, I’ve gotten good at laying down the basic ideas and melodies that pop in my head but I don’t have much spare time nowadays so I can’t really finish and master some tracks to show off, but the rough drafts I’ve had other DJs listen to have gotten me some excellent feedback, which keeps me going.

    I’m working as an actuary right now and my life really revolves around that, but I’ll always be mixing and producing just for fun and if enough people like what I do then who knows? 😉

    I do a bit of production and remixing too. DJing is the priority on the limited time I have available though.

    I have my stuff up on soundcloud: http://soundcloud.com/djrobfrancis

    I’ve been producing for quite a while, more of a hobby than DJing, but it would be nice to get something released at some point!

    Hello DJ Toto :);
    That is Really Cool that you have basically Mastered the way of Laying Down the Melodies and the Ideas that Pop into your head;
    That is a skill that i have Yet to Master so I Commend You; as I have Beats pretty much Mastered; but Melodies and Basslines are a little beyond me at the moment (as the Effort of picking my Keyboard up from the floor 12 inches away is too Great);;

    Hello Rob :);
    I have Followed you on Soundcloud today; and when I saw your Track ‘Peel On Punk’ I though ‘Yes :); there is going to be a Sample of John Peel talking about Punk Music’; but when the Track started I though ‘Awww I was wrong’; but then after 2 minutes in the Sample Came :D;

    Hello Alex :);
    I have Followed you on Soundcloud today; and am listening to your Tracks now :);
    Your Track ‘Chains’ is Glitch Heaven (even though I know you don’t class it as that); and I have Downloaded it Thank You 🙂

    Cool, thanks Emma, glad you like! I’d never have thought of it as glitch, but there you go :p

    Well I got into remixing a little bit but I am still too “green” or too much of a perfectionist to let something with my name on it get out into the world.. A “meh” live mix or set isn’t too important atm but a bad remix would be something I wouldn’t put on the net. So, I’ll share my stuff in a few months/years 🙂

    I’m a musician first and DJ second. I have songs on YouTube that I wrote intending to find a singer to do vocals. Never happened so about 20 tracks just sit there. Started learning DJing in Feb. I think my songs have groove and are danceable but I don’t know how to convert the instrumental tracks into a DJ remix or whatever. Any suggestions would be great. I have stuff on Oundcloud too but that’s mostly my early beatmatch remixing.

    I dabbled with producing, but I never liked my results nor had the patience to sit there coming up with it all. I enjoy DJing more.

    I did make a decent breaks remix of Orbital’s “Chime” and used it on a recent mix under the name Hedlytez.

    Hello Ian :);
    I am listening to your Track ‘Chill the Sound’ now; and I think your Melody is Gorgeous (and I have Downloaded it Thank You) :);
    To Create a Track like this whilst Revising for Exams (5 months ago); is amazing in my Opinion 🙂

    Hello Christopher :);
    It is a Great shame when we have Composed some Material and just need a Singer to top it off; but are unable to find one; Unfortunately that is a Common Experience;
    I have a Friend in Alaska; and another in Miami; who like you; Compose their Own Material; and I would say that 50% of their Material are Instrumentals; and they do stand up on their Own; on their other Tracks they use Samples to give the Track ‘Body’;
    and the Man in Alaska (as he is not very Confident about his Own Voice) uses a Vocoder and other Effects that Mask the Tone of his ‘Naked Voice’; and again that sits Very Well on his Tracks;
    One Option that Does Work; is to look in your Local Paper (or Musician Papers) for Females in your Area who Love to Sing; and could Possibly help you to Complete your Tracks; Many Female Singers will work for Nothing just to be Associated with a Possible Successful Track; and others will Charge a Nominal Fee; it could be something for you to Explore;
    DJ Remixes are where you take a Track that has been Composed by another person and ‘Alter’ or ‘Vary’ the Production to make it your ‘Own’; for instance I have a ‘Salt ‘N’ Pepa’ Remix on my YouTube Channel that is just about to hit 30,000 Views; there is an ‘Unwritten Law’ that says that ‘as long as you don’t try to sell the Remix’ or ‘until you Sell 5,000 Copies’; there is No Reason why you need to gain Permission from the Original Artist to Remix their Material;
    Any further information you may need; Please ask 🙂

    Hello D-Jam :);
    I would Love to hear your Breaks Mix of ‘Orbital – Chime’ as that is my Favourite Record of All time 🙂

    I’ve only recently started DJing/Producing, and have not really done much in the way of either yet… have some stuff on soundcloud that I have produced, as well as a couple mashups on youtube.

    I started producing about a year ago (by started I mean fooling around with garageband) I made some basic tracks but didn’t care for them enough to keep them around. Then I discovered ableton, which then led me to Reason. Love both of them. I’m still learning how to use them, especially reason. But I like it more than Djing. Djing strikes me as a way to actually “make it” though. And would no doubt help get my productions out there. I’m currently reading the dance music manual, which is incredible btw, and that’s really helped me understand what all those buttons and knobs do on those synthesizers.
    It does get extremely overwhelming though. Sitting, staring at that blank page, having some idea in your head but not being 100% sure how to make it happen. I’ve been taking a break from it recently and focusing on mixing. I just want to learn it all right away :p but it takes a lot of time.

    that’s the same way i personally feel…i’ve been able to pull out some good tracks imo..but not reallly “that” good if you know what i mean XD it takes a lot of time to master a program..or better, to know how to use it to the full..and it even take’s more time to build a decent track/remix/mashup

    I have Ableton 8 and Reason 5; and I ‘Know’ that feeling of sitting looking at a Blank Page Very Well :);
    I don’t know if this will help you; but what I have done recently is to Build Templates for Both Ableton and Reason; which in Ableton contains a Kick Drum Track; Snare; Hi-Hats; and Percussion (which I have already Composed from Loops); 3 Empty Bass Tracks; and then a further 8 Empty Tracks; All these Tracks have their Own EQ Eight on them; and it just means that I have ‘Something’ rather than an ‘Empty Page’ to work with when I begin;
    In Reason I have again made a Template which contains the Instruments I ‘Know’ I will be using as a Skeleton (Favourites such as the M-Class Mastering Suite; followed by the 14 Channel Mixer; then Kong – with a Favourite Drum Loop that is being Sequenced by a Redrum – ; then a Subtractor followed by a Matrix (which will run the Substracto); then a Thor followed by an RPG-8 (which will run the Thor); then a Malstrom; followed by a Dr OctoRex; then an NN-19 Sampler and an NN-XT Sampler; finishing off with a Scream 4; this gives me an Opportunity to begin Composing straight away;

    But for me; when I feel I am stuck in a ‘Writers Block’; I take ‘Time Out’ by just listening to Tracks for a few days 🙂
