And I’m on the other side of that discussion deathy..
I got an iPad mini at xmas – currently this replaces my now dead iPod Touch 4 – which died a steady death about a month ago after slowing down to a halt. No fault of apple, or the device. Just technology moved on. It physically couldn’t run most apps anymore.
The iPad will now be my DJ backup. I’ve put DJay 2 on it, synced all my playlists up and it’s awesome. It just works. And that’s what Android is missing. The amount of things in Android that can go wrong is immense – and I don’t like that any app can get to the crucial system stuff you rely on.
My Windows Phone is equally as locked down as the iPhone (apart from it likes talking to my laptop, unlike my iPod did..) – no access to system stuff, it just works and I haven’t had any issues with it in 4 years.
The Android I had before that however needed 4 resets in 6 months just to stop it grinding to a halt. It wasn’t an expensive handset, but it wasn’t cheap either. I wouldn’t expect it to be that bad…
Whether Apple do or don’t ditch the jack, they would be stupid not to release an adapter (or someone else will make one…) so you can still use your headphones with it if they do. I can’t see a world anytime soon where 3.5mm jacks become obsolete – and Apple won’t be the company that drives it if it does. That’ll be the headphone manufacturers. Such an adapter wouldn’t be hard to make – the pins will still correspond to the terminals we still use now as they did with the 30 pin connector..
There is a future for the jack plug yet..
