KeymasterI have not used it yet, but Cross looks really nice in its latest incarnation. It would be cool if we could get a version for testing and could do a review on it, but so far I think we only had 1.5 in Phil’s testing hands …

MemberI had a quick play with Rekordbox and it looked good. They don’t do a demo version of Cross which is a shame as I would love to try it out.

Keymaster2.0 review is coming…

MemberCool! I keep thinking I should just buy it to try it out as its only £40 – but still, thats £40 I could spend on music instead!
Thanks Phil, looking forward to it. Hoping to see how it matches up to Traktor.

I might just spend the $50 USD and try it out next week. If so, I’ll share my experiences.

MemberI recently purchased CrossDJ 2.0, because of the recent review postedon this site. Mixxx is free and has potential, but mapping requires knowledge of XML and perl. Serato DJ Intro is stable, but lacks features that I need (channel gains, and mappability)
Mapping in CrossDJ is easy compared to Mixxx (except for LED events, which still require some XML knowledge). I added a shift button so I can have gain knobs on my Mixtrack PRO, and also mapped fast-seek to my Pitch Bend -/+ keys, and pitch range adjust to my sync button.
AN interesting featuer is the CD/Vinyl control mode. Vinyl mode is 1:1 control of the song during play/pause, and CD mode skips through the track frame-by-frame during pause, and acts as pitch-bend during playback. However, this is only for the touch portion of the platter, I cannot figure out how to get the platter edges to function as pitch-bend yet.
Furthermore, I am achieving 1.5ms latency with ASIO4ALL drivers on Win7. Overall, I would consider it a good purchase.

ParticipantWell, I purchased Cross 2.0 and my experience wasn’t very good. I’m glad I only wasted $50 USD.
Basically Mixvibes don’t support their CrossDJ products. I’ll try to back up what I say succinctly:
- The only option you have is to post technical questions on their forum.
- I tried to post a question, but got this: “You need to login in order to post within this forum.”
- After I registered I got this: “You cannot post in this forum”
- I politely wrote to the administrator asking if I had missed anything.
- I still haven’t gotten a response, it’s been one week.
I’m sorry, but this just isn’t professional support.
I was able to Download the Cross DJ 2.0 just fine, and even muck about a little bit. The interface was gorgeous and functional in ways Traktor is not. But I bought it expecting to make a custom mapping for my Traktor Kontrol S4. They certainly advertise this ability on their website: “If your controller is not listed, simply create your own preset thanks to CrossDJ’s MIDI-mapping function.” The Cross DJ forums have a section for user mappings, but no download links. Bizarre to say the least.
So I would not recommend CrossDJ to frustrated Traktor users seeking an alternative. I was so excited about Cross, I was prepared to spend an afternoon on a custom mapping and re-work my setup around the new software. Instead, my suspicions about “alternative” Digital DJ systems were confirmed. I started digital DJing with Torq.
For now I’ll limp along with Traktor’s lack of smart playlists, lack of elastic beatgridding, and their rigid, inflexible UI. Traktor’s has long been ignoring user requests for smartists. Hopefully they’ll wise up. But I’m scanning the horizon for an alternative. Sorry for the long post, but its gotta be said:
Too many digital DJ companies don’t listen to their customers after they make a sale.
Rant out.

ParticipantAs a CDJ/RekordBox user this has got me interested as it could be comparable to RekorBox AP for the new 2000nexus for me a 900 user. For just under £50 including the IOS app it might be worth a look. My one concern is my experience with RekordBox hasn’t been fantastic so it leaves me wondering just how stable CROSS is.

MemberI eventually stuck with Traktor and put the time into mapping it the way I wanted. Mapping is now done (on my Allen & Heath K2) and I love it.
The reason I stayed away from Mixvibes CrossDJ was for the reasons reason808 (no pun intended) stated: I didn’t think CrossDJ was “pro” enough. It struck me that CrossDJ was aimed at bedroom DJs due its ability to be controlled from an iPhone for a party – I couldn’t see Richie Hawtin doing this!
Also people elsewhere said that CrossDJ’s effects were a bit ropey whereas Traktor’s are top notch.
Ultimately you get what you pay for.

ParticipantRob, CrossDJ is the little brother to Cross 2.0. I suspect the fx might not be as good as Traktor but I always use external fx so it’s not a big issue. What I like about Cross 2.0 is the link to RekordBox which I use with my CDJ900s and the Ipad app giving remote access although I’m hoping the hot cues will be mapped to the CDJs.
You may not know but the new CDJ2000 nexus has this same ReckordBox > CDJ > app link which is certainly not aimed at the bedroom DJ’s at £3000 a pair so you may see Ritchie with his phone or pad in hand one day
I dumped Traktor at 2.5 as eventhough NI finally gave Advanced HID it became so unstable it was unusable and RekordBox was finally getting more stable. Really I’m just looking for an easy cheap way of getting hot cues on to my decks as that’s all that missing from them.October 12, 2012 at 1:01 pm #1013487Rob Francis
MemberInteresting that you say Traktor is unstable – I found the opposite. It has never crashed on me, although I am on version 2.1. I am planning to move to 2.6 when that is released.
Rekordbox did look appealing to me as Traktor + iTunes is crap but I have no other choice right now.

ParticipantTractor 2.1 didn’t offer me Advanced HID hence the upgrade, to my regret. If you’re interested in RekordBox there is a way to link it to Traktor and I think it allows for the import of loops and cues, it’s freeware called RekordBuddy (d/l link http://www.facebook.com/DamienSirkis) it’s for MAC only though.
