    I’m somewhere inbetween 5ft 6inches and 5 7 myself, normally I don’t have a problem but sometimes I do have to stand on the tip-toes when I’m getting into-it

Better than being tall and hunched over because the equipment is so far away.

5′ 4″ here! I landed a gig where there was a wooden stage and a built in platform to put DJ gear on. I guess the builders were tall because once I had my rig set up, I could not see over my laptop! To me, being able to see and interact with my crowd is very important so I grabbed a chair and rocked it from there! I’m just glad I didn’t fall because I move around a lot when I DJ! People thought it was hilarious and some took pictures. I didn’t bother me though because I was generating interest in one way or another 🙂

5’10, so not quite “short” but I was at a ‘rave’ last night (Pegboard Nerds/Bassdread/B-Dolla/locals) and this one asian girl rocked the hell out of her set. That said, she could barely see over her S4 stand. Its all about attitude I suppose!

mmm … is it that just the shorties want to reply to this one … or can we start drawing the conclusion that DDJT DJs are predominantly short? 🙂

At 6’3″ I don’t really qualify as short I think. Still I can relate to the problem. Doing a lot of mobile DJ-ing, you usually stand on the same level as the crowd. So the first few rows can see you and, more importantly, you can see. Beyond that, not even my height helps and I often have no clue what is happening a few feet from the DJ stand.

I have seriously been looking into the folding platform that RoadReady sells. Price is still a bit steep, but it would give me a nice 40cm-50cm rise. And it collapses into a nice compact, transportable flightcase. Seemingly it sets up and packs up rather quickly (which is really imporant since I don’t want to add much more time to a gig for setting up/breaking down).

Nice black velcro attached skirt around the edge and it looks nifty too. Top in several colors and materials I think.

    Just my two cents worth.

I’m 5’8″,not tall by any means but haven’t encounter any problems yet (I built my own console for mobile gigs) but just in case I need a platform, i have one of this in my RV.

Yes, I too am pretty short and from the asian pacific decent…my attitude makes up for me being so close to the ground! Hence I love to be grounded!! HAA!! 😀 Attitude is everything. It applies to any given situation in life 😉

Awesome Responses guys! keep them coming, I totally forgot to state my height, I am 5’4ish but still only 18 years old so still a bit more growing to do 🙂 and being short hasn’t really disadvantaged me DJing but sometimes I do find it a bit hard to convince the bouncers I am old enough to be at there hahaha Thanks again for the replies! Keep them coming 🙂

I am 18 too, 6’1 and I think that my hight is perfectly fine. Better being smaller than bigger imho.

Living in Asia, the general consensus on what is ‘short’ is a little different here. @ 5’4″ you’d be just about average @J-Duffin haha. I have had some dj stages where the decks are a little higher than I would like, but for the shorter dj in our crew we usually put down a flight case top, milk crates or at one spot, the concrete tiles they use to raise up the height of the technics.
