If I were you and wanted to focus on turntablism I’d go for the stanton 150ST, they have the best bits of both, look of the technics, torque of the numark, straight tonearm which is better at staying in the groove, they are line level so no annoying ground hum ever and they have on board key correction if you are ever spinning real vinyl, they are really everything the mk5 should have been. you can get the techs or stanton’s second hand and get the picth recalibrated for a few dollars, or you can rebuild tech’s for a couple of hundred.

    Thanks for the input.

Don’t the TTX’s address most of those issues…straight tone arm (and s shape) good torgue and I think you can switch the output on the back so you don’t need the ground. I also like that I can flip the pitch fader to be on the right side of the TT in battle position.

I am looking into the stanton’s right now and may throw them in the mix….

Also the TTXs have a keylock on them too…

I have owned both and would always go for the 1200s. They have been the de-facto analogue DJ turntable for 25 years and still dominate the turntabilist / hip-hop scene. They are as sturdy as a turntable you will find and just run and run.

Additionally, if you are going to play out they are still the most likely turntable you will find in any bar or club.

I rarely use them these days, but I have a pair of TTX’s and I love them. Almost sold them a few months ago, but decided to keep them around a little longer…

And yes, they have a straight arm option, line level out, and key correction… Very solid decks.

Can anyone direct me to a link of what to look for when insepcting the turntables? I have a general idea.
Also, these are being sold by a friend of my moms who is letting me pick them up to take home for a day or towo to try them out.
So I won’t be rushed and can thoroughly examine them if I had an indepth checklist.

I love my NS6 and digital djing, but Turntablism has caught my eye and I am going to pick up a Used SL1 and a pair of turntables.

I haven’t found out all the details yet, but I am supposed to go check out a pair of Technic 1200’s that are supposedly in good shape (for $700).

The alternative would be to pick up a pair of NEW Numark TTX usb’s for $800. I’m usually a fan of buying new (no matter what it is), but especially something volatile like turntables.

What are your thoughts if you were in this position? This is assuming I go to check the 1200s and nothing is wrong with them.

    Thanks in Advance,

    Vince

I’d go with the Technics . They’re the industry standard for decades, of a reason. I’ve spun on others in my time, but nothing compares to techs. that being said I have no experience with the Numark model you mentioned. But the test of time stands behind techs. Since they are in high demand, you could always re-sell the techs if you’re not satisfied. 700 is cheap for a pair

Check out the weight of the engine, 5.0kg is really heavy. The heavier, the faster the track is on the good speed. Take all the points that passed above into account. Of course only buy direct drive turntables.

For used turntables especially check out the elements and needle. Roughly one can say that Stanton elements (like the 505) are used by dj’s that are scratching and doing tricks and Ortofon (Pro S) is preferred by dj’s that make long mixes. Ortofon sound quality is a bit better then Stanton.

I’ve got a TT500 for ages and it’s great! I use a Stanton 505 btw, great stuff! I would only buy Numark or Technics but thats just a personal preference based on my own experiences.

ive had 1200’s and now on a set of vestax pdx-2000… which have alot of the same features as the ttx…. the ttx start up torque is great but the platter weight is a definate problem as the technics ha sthe magnet mounted direct to the platter giving it nicer feel for turntablism… tech will always be better in my opion, but the newer deck (ttx’s and pdx’s) have sum nice feature like reverse and the extended pitch range… which is great for scratching bass lines and learning diff scratches much easier

I ended up going with the Technic 1200’s. Got a mint pair of Mk2’s for $700 so no complaints here.

PS I’m also from the 609.

good on ya… i had to sell my 1200’s when i moved to the uk…got the vestax’s and now dying for techs again… not to mention i know how to do all kinds of mods to the 1200’s like internal ground, led’s, custom paint, etc.
