MemberRight now Intel produces better processors. AMD still has a ways to catch up to the I5 and I7 series from Intel.
The choice in processor should have nothing to do with the midi controller you plan on using. The DJ software you’re using (or planning on using) runs on top of Windows, an operating system designed to work on both Intel and AMD processors.

Memberthis is a timeless debate really. I personally prefer AMD and see no reason to go with Intel. True that your choice of processor doesn’t bare an impact on your controller though and I can actually give ya countless reasons to go with AMD over Intel.

MemberAMD is more stable then folks think, they were originally designed for gaming systems as well as crossplatform cpus; this meaning that they can be found in more devices as well as being seen in linux based machines. AMD came out with cool and quiet technology meaning that on average they tend to not use as much power and run quieter and cooler. The top reason is affordability, most AMD machines cost less as do the CPUs if you are into building computers.

Processor has literally 0% to do with your DJ controller. Your choice in software does. AMD and Intel have been trading the “fastest processor” crown for years. As of right now? The Intel Core i5 or i7 gets my high five.
(Think of the processor like the engine in a car, it would be like asking, “What car freshener goes best with my Ford? I’m not trying to belittle you either, its a great question and I’m glad you asked.)

Roll with what you have, AMD makes fine chips. Rock it loud and proud!

KeymasterCertain manufacturers sometimes state that their controllers won’t work with AMD. Best is just to check the tech spec of the controller you want to use before buying it.

ParticipantI do think that there is a reason that there is Intel in Apple computers AKA Mac!
Need I say more? 😉March 2, 2012 at 2:07 pm #16030Yuusou
MemberAs an IT specialist I can give you some hints about the choice of the right processor (ignoring the fact whether it’s supported by the controller or not): AMD processors produce a lot more heat than Intel processors, which means that AMD processors are less efficient than the ones made by Intel since more power is used to keep a pot of coffee next to the laptop warm instead of calculate all the necessary processes. So AMD processors are cheap because the chip design is cheap, yet the costs for running the system according to a long-term use can get really high. It just depends on how long the laptop is running per day and meant to be in use.
Intel processors consume less power to get the same results like AMD processors. It’s still amazing that a 6-core AMD isn’t better than 4-core Intel, neither in efficiency nor in performance. Especially the mobile sector of Intel is interesting, since you need efficiency to last longer with your battery.
For professional home and mobile DJ setups -> Intel
For venues (what do you care about other people’s electricity bills) and hobby home DJ setups -> AMDAnd another tip for you: I know that not many people want to mess with BIOS settings but you could try to get a laptop with a mobile processor which has the possibility to change the original CPU clock by underclocking, if you know, that the CPU won’t have much to do during your session, especially in 4-core systems. That will lower the heat production, which lowers the CPU fan’s speed and, of course, lowers the power consumption to extend the uptime.
That’s it. My first post… and damn that’s a long one.
