No you’re not the only one and it’s completely natural. You’re recording everything you do, so you start thinking about the mistakes you can make. When it comes to recording a mix I don’t think it’s possible to be flawless, even the best make mistakes.

For me personally, when it’s time to post a new mix online I’ll start recording every session I have over a week until I have a set I really like. Just play around and remember you can always record another mix, have fun!

I would recommend getting into the habit of automatically hitting record at the beginning of every mix you do, practice or otherwise. Save them and don’t even listen back to them to begin with, that way though if they’re all recorded then whenever you absolutely nail one you can show it off.

This, because you never know when a mess around set turns out amazing.

Also I’ve often be surprised listening back to things when I’ve tried out new techniques and thought it sounded rubbish whilst I was doing it but really liked it when listening as an audience would

This is a great discussion. I think the idea of just habitually recording everything is excellent – it’d be a bit like Big Brother – you soon forget the cameras are there…

This is so true, some things I have tried out and almost cringed at as I do it thinking it was awful then you listen back and think actually it sounds pretty good.
