KeymasterIt’s not a true standalone mixer so you’ll need your laptop connected for it to work with external sources. Yes, it comes with full Serato.

ParticipantThanks muchly Phil.
‘Scuse my ignorance, but how does that work? If the laptop goes down the “primary” inputs cease working? I take it the 1/8″ jack continues to work in this scenario?November 27, 2011 at 11:53 pm #10520Gordon Anderson
ParticipantAaaargh. I’m going round in circles, but feel like no controller does everything I want.
I’m now loving the look of the NS6 which is standalone, but I’d really like the FX to apply to external inputs.
Is there a standalone mixer out there that has:
fx on external inputs (preferably post-fade like the NS6)
onboard soundcard
bundled with full software
booth outsI can’t find one, am I asking for too much?
On a different note, I have a kaos pad in my “dark ages” DJ setup, and a mixer with a send/return loop. It gives me a vast array of effects and control over them, in a format that is both intuitive and fun to play with. I particularly like the really fat, slow decay delay I can get from it for dub reggae sets. Will the FX on digital controllers keep me satisfied? Is there much control over the parameters?
With the struggle to find a perfect controller I am considering a much lesser piece of kit and simply passing it into one of the channels of my traditional setup. It’s just so much kit to lug around/ fit into a booth.

ParticipantYou could take a close look at the Denon MC6000:
Here used with Traktor

ParticipantYeah been looking at that. Nice standalone controller and love the flexibility to route anaolgue through software allowing software fx on analogue inputs. But am I right in thinking the fx are pre-fade? So far the Numark is the only controller I have read about with post-fade FX.
I’m lead to believe you can fake it in Traktor using some pretty heavy hacking, but sounds a bit involved for me. I just love delay..November 28, 2011 at 9:35 am #10535Pär Hessler

pioneer EFX 1000 or some else.
EFX 1000 shold be able to find on the 2nd hand market for a good prize I think
I sold mine a while ago for under 1/2 the prize of a new one….
Or 2 x SC2000 and an X1600 mixer??

ParticipantThanks for the suggestions and keep em coming 🙂
I am considering more and more an external effects unit. My DJ mixer has a really nice send/ return loop which I am used to using, so it may be worth considering keeping it in the setup, and trimming down on the digital controller to save space. I like the look of that SC2000 in that respect, and 2 digital decks I can live with.
Questions: I will need an external audio interface. I assume one with at least 2 outputs would allow me to route 2 digital decks to 2 channels on my mixer? This would be ideal, especially as a starting point, and if I want greater control I could add a second SC2000 later.
If I add a second SC2000 do I need a second external audio interface or could I futureproof myself by buying one with a greater number of I/Os?
And do you know if the SC2000 has control for Traktor sample decks? Not a deal-breaker if I keep my mixer in the equation because I have an old-school DJ sampler (although still more kit to carry around).
And finally, does the SC2000 ship with any mixing software? Assuming I am starting with 2 digital decks, am I missing out on much using Traktor LE?Sorry for all the questions, and thanks again.
Ah one more question. Is there any controllers on the market with an aux send/return loop? ie one I can use external effects with.
