Afraid people won't like the music i play

Don’t get too hung up to the idea that people are not having a good time unless they are dancing and jumping. Sure, if you’re playing in a dance bar you’d expect them to dance, but if you’re playing in a lounge people are more than happy just to nod their heads while enjoying a drink with their friends 🙂

Also: If the majority dances and has a good time, do not worry.
There will ALWAYS be people that do not like you or your music.
I had great self esteem problems when I started out and although I had nights with great success that one guy/girl coming to me as complaining would give me sleepless nights…
Forget that. Get over it.

I had gigs where I played in front of thousands of people having a good time, showering me with champagne when I left the stage and still some would post that the evening was shit on some forum or facebook…. do not let the trolls get to you.

Most important part is that YOU are having a good time. Obviously you have to take your job of making a good night of it seriously and this does include feeling the vibe, reading the crowd or whatever you want to call it and acting upon it, but as long as you’ve done that, the rest is out of your hands.

I’ve seen semi-famous artists play at parties where everybody was busy with the food and drinks and paid no heed whatsoever to the music. The same guy played a theatre three days later with 500+ very enthusiatic fans.

So, don’t beat yourself over the head. Just enjoy yourself, show people you are having a good time and try hard to take them on that musical ride.
