Most important part is that YOU are having a good time. Obviously you have to take your job of making a good night of it seriously and this does include feeling the vibe, reading the crowd or whatever you want to call it and acting upon it, but as long as you’ve done that, the rest is out of your hands.
I’ve seen semi-famous artists play at parties where everybody was busy with the food and drinks and paid no heed whatsoever to the music. The same guy played a theatre three days later with 500+ very enthusiatic fans.
So, don’t beat yourself over the head. Just enjoy yourself, show people you are having a good time and try hard to take them on that musical ride.
