After doing some research, I’ve discovered a way to offer Karaoke using a laptop, a monitor, some CD+G DVDs and my existing Sound System (Speakers, Mics, etc.). I hope to run some tests very soon once I have the setup in place.

You might look into software/controller combo’s that support video! And run the mic through a separate mixer (check the Mackie DL808!).

I’m hoping I can use my Yamaha MG 102C Mixer and run directly from the laptop to the mixer and a monitor.

I’m currently looking at Karma and KaraFun as software solutions.

Too bad you dont use Virtual DJ, cuz those software supported mp3+g format , so you can run the videos from your lappie to a TV/projector

Another software option would be Mixvibes Cross, come version 3.0 the video plugin is included in the price. But that is beside the point.

Obviously anything is possible technically. The setup you suggest would mean running headphone out from laptop to Yamaha. all mixing to be done in the laptop. Usually I am not too happy with sound quality that way. A headphone out is not the same as a line output. but -as said- technically it can be done.

We did karaoke for many years but got tired of lugging 3 42″ plasma screens around. We had laserdisc players at first and later regular DVD players. Always with separate videomixer and audio mixer. We needed an extra person to operate it as the MC/DJ would be out on stage MC-ing and helping singers whoost lyrics, or worse, timing.

It was fun but cumbersome and I am no sure the extra pay willbe worth the extra gear and hassle. Something else you might want to consider is if you want to spend your nights listening to howling wolves (trust me, it’s not The Voice!) and drunks fighting for the mic later in the evening.

Chuck, Plan to run the Video and Audio out to a Screen/Projector using HDMI. I will also run the Audio to my Yamaha Mixer which is where I will run Mics as well.

<span style=”line-height: 1.5em;”>As long as I can run Audio to the Mixer using the Headphone OUT on the Laptop, I should be golden. The video will go to the screen using HDMI.

    That’s the plan anyway.
