    Hi, Colin!

The “new post” form is at the bottom of each forum, you’ll get better, more focused responses if you use that when you have a distinct question, though there are certainly times where you should use an existing post, such as when you are expanding on an existing conversation… but, usually when we see this, it’s because the “new post” form is impossible to find.

    Hope this helps!

@Colin: Topic moved to it’s own post. See Deathy’s comments.

@Deathy: Thanks for the help, but it means I have to move two posts! (not the nicest forum to moderate LOL). And with our frequency of moderating, be sure we’ll catch it and move it at the earliest convenient moment.

And now that it’s moved to the correct forum (it’s Digital DJ Gear not DJ Booth 🙂 ), to the task of answering the OP.

If you buy an active sub that has a built-in cross-over and stereo input and high-pass outputs it’s relatively simple:

Mixer with two balanced signal cables to the inputs of the active sub.
High-pass outputs from the active sub to the amp with balanced signal cable.
Amp to passive top speakers with SpeakOn cable.

Any other way to set it up is a waste of time, money or both imho (like getting a seperate cross-over and another amp/passive sub combo for example).

You can not feed a SpeakOn cable into an active speaker (the connector isn’t even there). SpeakOn carries a sound signal already amplified from an amp to a passive speaker. You use a (preferably balanced cable) to bring a signal from mixer or controller to your active speaker. That has the amp built-in.

OK… usually, I’m commenting more to help direct folks to where the “new post” form is, as it’s not the most obvious place to put it, but I will just leave it for you to deal with.

The help is, as I said, appreciated and I didn’t want to be rude and just delete your helpful comment to the OP 😀

Yeah, no offense at all here.

Hi Deathly and DJ Vintage. Thanks a lot for your help. I’m a 55 year old who has never posted a question to a forum before so the procedure, lingo and technology is a bit of a challenge. Vinyl and a coax cable into the back of a CRT TV was the level of my media skills in the ’80s! Thanks for the advice. It makes sense and is within my technical skills. The next request from the children will be lights and smoke machines so I’m sure I’mm be using the forum again!

Be sure to read up on a recent post on a fazer, it’s where I explain why you should stay (far) away from smoke machines, imho of course.

    😀
