ParticipantIn my engineering(audio) class a few weeks ago, we did a bit of side by side comparisons with dre’s, senny hd25, senny HD280. The Hd25’s won for best response. The Dre’s were OK, but way too much bottom end.
Senny’s for me have the best range of headphones.
oh and yep dre’s are marketing well and truly.
Then look at price point, dre’s are $Au499, the hd 25’s are $399. There is also a reason why pro audio outlets dont sell dre’s.September 12, 2012 at 8:08 am #1012061Terry_42
KeymasterI have tested several beats in the shop and always found the hugely overpriced for what they deliver.
There is not a single beats headphone that was up to the soundquality of my 70 bucks Zomos and they do not even come close to the old Sennheiser 25s.September 12, 2012 at 8:23 am #1012063Rob Francis
MemberDr Dre Beats are just a fashion thing. I defy anyone to listen to both Beats and my Allen & Heath’s and say the Beats sound better.
Besides, mixing isn’t all about bass. In fact treble & mid-range is more accurate due to the sharper transients.

ParticipantNot sure I use the senny hd280’s and love them. I don’t feel the need to be trendy.

Okay, so this just might be ****ing to the crowd on this but…i honestly f***ing hate people who say that Dj’s are only good if they use “beats by dre”. trolling or not it just bugs the s*** out of me!
Are there seriously people that say this? The only DJ I’ve ever seen using Beats headphones is Skrillex. Most DJs I know are pretty obsessive about their gear, and know there are better headphones out there, almost all of which cost less.

Participant+1 for the HD25’s.
Beats might be ok but they’re fast becoming a ridiculous fashion accessory. Case in point, I see two guys in conversation one of whom is wearing his Beats over his ears but with no music playing. The fact he kept saying “what?” “pardon?” every few seconds just added to the hilarity.

Participanti have a pair of on-ear skullcandy that in my opinon are not only better sounding but much cheaper and *much* more comfortable.

This! This is what a lot of people don’t understand, just because a lot of mixing is done on the kick drum doesn’t mean a kick ONLY involves bass. That slight high end snap of the kick is what I often use to beat match.

Memberto me beats are to bottom heavy. I prefer headphones that are balanced for the most part, mostly cause i use them for more then just DJing. I use my headphones for production as well.

MemberTbh Beats headphones are overpriced junk. My HD25’s are all I need they sound great and are accurate. If you only use the bass to sync your music then it will probably fail. I rely on all the aspects of the music the bass drum snare and the hats, for a tighter mix.
i agree with digital kw3rty that a non coloured / flat sound is much better for monitoring.

KeymasterDJing existed long before Beats by Dr Dre…

BlockedI simply dont get this thing about dre headphones… i wouldnt even consider for one sec even listening to them… without checking i know that no dj in the top 100 (maybe even the top 1000) uses them… why i wonder???

MemberGuys, honestly. Don’t you think you’re a little bit one sided? I agree with you, the beats are overpriced, they are a fashion statement, but they’re definitely not “crap”. The price far exceeds the quality, but if you’d be so lucky as to find a pair of beats pro’s, used as a demo headphone, and sold half price, it wouldn’t be a BAD deal. I’m not saying it’s DJ-headphones, but I’m not willing to say they suck.
And while we’re on it. Even though we might think it’s sad, fashion statements are a big thing! Branding is a serious business. Deadmau5 uses his led-mask-thingy, and it’s probably quite expensive – Though gives nothing to the actual music. David Guetta and Skrillex have their Beats headphones, and like it or not, it’s a part of their image and probably made them “cooler”.
Some people try to copy them. F*** that. But honestly! The branding. I acknowledge it’s existence, and furthermore, it’s importance.

ParticipantI actually try to avoid the deep bass in the headphones.
The room is already full of loud bass, and it’s usually really “muddy” where the DJ is placed, so anything but the deep bass helps me mix

ParticipantI think it’s really funny/ironic how portable music sources have become really small, (remember walkmans or discmans?), but now the headphones people wear have become massive (irrelevant of djing). As far as celebrities of any kind go, they re usually paid to use, wear, drink, drive and eat certain things, and of course they are usually given them free.
