So just clarifying, you want to be able to DJ, as well as create music live, and implement both into a peformance?
Really, it’s a lot of personal preference, but I would say maybe Ableton Live would suit your needs. (Check it out here, they have a 30-day demo too). It’s mostly a producing software, but can be used to DJ as well. However, it’s not as flexible when DJing as you must pre-prepare sets beforehand. However, the software does allow you to hook up MIDI instruments and use extra pieces of software to create unique and varied sounds from those instruments. This way you’ll be able to use your current keyboard (if it supports MIDI), and I have seen MIDI wind instruments on the market too – this would defiantly make an interesting performance.
My advice would be to try demos of Ableton, and maybe another more “traditional” DJ software such as Traktor or Virtual DJ, and see what you prefer. I’d hold off on the hardware until you’ve decided what route to take.
Also, make sure you ask forum member Emma Partnow if you have any Ableton questions, she’s the pro at it!
