InactiveNever tried Twitch myself but many of us DJ with Ableton Live and a jogless controller so I don’t see any harm. Besides, Twitch have touch controls that might last longer than a mechanical jog wheel. Plus takes less space so you could put a computer and the controller into a normal sized computer bag, a big plus in my eyes.

KeymasterGuys please be objective.
I use Ableton too and it is BY FAR not easy and no beginners tool and I love my jogwheels to death even in ableton.
Why? Just look at some instant gratification mappings for jogwheels in Ableton.
Jogwheels are not all about scratching. I rarely scratch when I DJ a wedding, but I would never do it without jogs.It is largely dependent on the workflow you have.
Also comparing the DJuce software to Traktor or Serato is really not good. Djuce has various major downsides even when compared to Serato DJ Intro and you will want to upgrade the software to something better soon.I would largely encourage you to make up your mind on the software part first. You are in a starter phase where you cannot decide yet, what your workflow will be and limiting you in the workflow at this stage can possibly be a bad idea.
So I would make a conservative choice for your first controller.
Also make no mistake: No software is free. You are either paying for it in the open (when you upgrade from Serato DJ Intro to Serato DJ you pay the 200 bucks) or you pay it with the controller (like with the S2 or Twitch) and there are no wonders in the world of DJing. You usually get what you pay for.October 5, 2012 at 7:52 am #1013092eisenhorn
Membersorry..wasnt being negative about abelton..drool….tis was susposed to mean wow..mouth open type thing!!!
i have never used it but i have always seen it as the holy grail of dance music producing!!
sorry!!October 5, 2012 at 8:01 am #1013093Claus Hyttel
ParticipantYes obviously they are very different in workflow.. which is why i pointed out that i could only talk for the Twitch.. i was in the same situation when i got my controller (this being my first) i had my eyes on the S2 and the Twitch.. i really wanted the S2 because of the freedom to map effects and stuff down the line, but unfortunately it was a bit over my budget. so i turned to the Twitch which i made a very good deal on second hand.
I would say the same look at what you want to do with it and how advanced you want it to be, Traktor is an advanced piece of software but VERY powerful if you learn how to use it properly and its great because you down the line can add more Midi controllers for effects and stuff. Serato Itch is very easy to learn to use (which i found an advance as a beginner dj) but it lacks in the possibility to map it and to use external Midi Controllers.
I cant speak for Ableton Live, im sure its a very good and powerful piece of software but i have never used it and i think it would put any beginner off quite fast. ( just my 2 cents )
For the jogwheels again we all work differently and yes they are not just used for scratching (just google Ean Golden S2 Mapping and u will see some serious use of the jogs) but again it depends on your workflow, i like the button bashing on the Twitch but again down the line i will probably change to a controller with Jogs to get more options.. But again the Strips are very easy to use if you ask me.
So best for you would be go to a shop and try out some controllers including the ones you want and look at videos on youtube as well to see what others do with them before you decide

Memberthanks for all your help gents…terry42 i wasnt dissing ableton, the exact opposite but it didnt come out right…this is a really nice forum, thats for your help..
twitch it is!!
its within my price range..even brand new..its about $485 – £300 which for me, who just messes about and isnt that serious, that at the top of my price range..with twitch i can record and i get a full version of serato..
theres nothing wrong with traktor from the advice ive been given here, but having used djuced and virtual then i think serato is a step up from them and traktor will be a bit to far for me….for the time being!!!thanks again for the help..
great forum full of helpfull people

ParticipantNo problem glad to help.. and feel free to ask when you get your twitch if you need help 🙂
By external Midi Device i mean something like a Midi Fighter (search on youtube and you’ll see) or a novation launchpad to take care of the effects

Membererm help again!!!
one thing i have noticed on the reviews of the denon..its has two ports for speakers…i only use little computer speakers ‘1/8” stereo mini-jack output’ i guess i have to buy some new speakers now?
October 10, 2012 at 6:50 am #1013322Terry_42
KeymasterWell computer speakers are OK to start out, but you should upgrade to at least “decent” ones, like the M-Audio AV 40.
The thing to go for are of course real Monitor speakers to hear your mix the most “true” to what it will be, the KRK Rockit is a good and still affordable studio monitor.
If you have to save up, simply buy an adapter cable to plug into your current speakers. And for the record: Indeed came out a bit wrong, I am not dissing Ableton, I use it myself. It is just not very easy to get into and learning the DJ basics on it, is nearly impossible. It is a tool for later on in my opinion.
