ParticipantQuicknight: He does have gain controls.. Just not on the hardware.
DJ Akash: Set up VDJ to use the autogain, with “auto + remember”, then the first time you load a track it will apply auto gain (make sure that the “gainsliderincludesautogain” option is set to “no” – makes it easier to see how much gain it has applied to your track and therefore how much you can alter it.. π

Thank you DJ Bob6397 π
I never knew of that option (auto + remember) as I am only using Virtual DJ LE(Limited Edition) with DJ Mixtrack Quad. You are right, I have Gain Controls on my VDJ but not on my MQuad Controller.
Actually the problem I have seen is that…when I change a track from Song A to Song B……I find an emptiness for a while.
This is because both the songs were playing at teh same time during the phase and it had more music(two tracks) than a single track.. However it lasts for 4-5 seconds but still it sounds a bit low in energy…I have seen professional DJ mix or blend so well…we can not notice the difference of changing the track..thats why I am a beginner and others are professional and experienced or is it because of my Controller mixer.
Please help

ParticipantLet me explain in a simpler way…
I am playing Track A and its time to play Track B…..so I have chosen a Cue Point of Track B to mix and start Track B…
However during the phase of merging(dont know the actual term), I reduce the volume of Track A and slowly increase the volume of Track B…
At a point both the Tracks Equalizer will be at the same point (for eg. at EQ 5) and both the music tracks are playing together..
However when I reduce the Track A music further(on the Controller Mixer equalizer) and increase Track B further…the music strength loses until I put the Track B song at a volume higher than original volume label of Track A…
In the entire process, I am introducing the new track and fading out the old track slowly.
I dont know might what am I doing wrong… π

ParticipantI doubt that it is your hardware. Do you fade with the channel faders or with the crossfader? Bear in mind that even though 2 tracks have their gain set correctly, that does not mean that the breakdown in one is at the same volume as it would be in another – and the end of a track tends to be louder than the intro in most cases…
If you are using the crossfader, try using the volume faders.. If you are already using the channel faders, part of the skill of the DJ is allowing for those differences.. Listen for them and correct them – Running everything at 75% as normal allows for some extra boost at the start of a track if required as well.. π

ParticipantHi DJ Bob6397,
Thank you for your reply π
I use mainly Channel Fader and I tend to keep the Cross fader in the Center.
I keep the channel fader of Track B at 0 (Zero).
Then I listen to the Track B through my headphone and then I slowly increase the Channel Fader of B to increase the Volume until it is audible in external speakers and then after about 5-7 seconds I reduce the Track A volume slowly via Channel Fader itself.
I use Cross Fader Very very rarely..
Is it where I am doing the mistake??
Please advice..

ModeratorNope, plenty of DJs never touch their crossfader, I keep mine off a lot of the time too. As for the actual transition, you mention a period of time (5-7 seconds), where I hope you are counting and picking the right spot to start fading tracks in and out.

ParticipantThank you DJ Vintage for the reply
Yes the correct word is ‘Transition’ that I wanted to mean by mentioning ‘Merge’.
After transition is complete and Track B is playing, the sound of the track becomes low like an emptiness.
Is it something I need to do to avoid it..so that the Controller Mixer doesnot make the sound go off making the feel of emptiness with only Track B playing..
THe time of 5-6 seconds I have mentioned as an example which I actually wait to find out the right time to switch off Track A completely.
The main problem is the low energy of music…I want to mix like professional DJ…where people cant even find out when the 2nd track came in…
But when I do…I listen to the Track B through my headphone and then I slowly increase the Channel Fader of B to increase the Volume until it is audible in external speakers and then after about 5-7 seconds I reduce the Track A volume slowly via Channel Fader itself.
Please help…

ModeratorAre you bringing the new track in with the low EQ turned down? Then when you transition slowly remove low EQ from old track and bringing up on new track? Since the majority of the energy is in the low end, this will make for less of an “empty” feeling.
Bringing the new track in slightly under the volume of the old track and then changing that around is another way to prevent the loss of energy.

ParticipantThank you very much for your assistance. It really worked…and also I am trying other ways to transit a song by playing loops till I can hit at the right time.
Thank you all for your replies.
I shall see u in a new forum.
