I’ve switched from dj with a 17” gateway to a 13inch mac. Best decision ever!!!!!

I used a 2007 up until recently for all my DJing and producing needs. No issues with speed, although I did upgrade the RAM. I will say though that 13″ is kind of cramped, especially if you do 4 deck mixing. If you can spend a few more bucks, I’d go with the 15″ just for the extra real estate. But even the entry level will be enough for you if you’re ok with the screen size.

Can someone tell me why everyone is saying that Mac is better then PC for djing?

The main reason, I think, is stability. Macs tend to hardly ever crash, if ever unlike PCs. Also, they usually “just work” with no need to install drivers. Aside from that, I think it’s just “the cool thing to do”. Macs have always been traditionally very popular among music and artsy type people.

That’s not to say PCs aren’t good for DJing, nor to say that Macs are better at it either. I know for me, when I use Virtual DJ, the Windows version seems more stable and has more functionality than the OSX version.

This is my personal thinking and oppinion and why I will never buy a PC again.

If you have a Mac with DJ SW you can still use it for other things like surfing, mailing and so on
You install your sw and it works instantly.

With PCs you have to configure it and take away a lot of stuff from the OS and turn off a lot of things that runs in background, desturbing the musicflow, (Automatic updates for windows, antivirus running in background and so on.)
This results in that if you shall use a PC you have to use it and configure it only for the DJ SW and you have to have a lot of knowlage about computers, otherwise it may crash and music will stop playing.

Seting up a Mac to run smooth with Traktor 15min max,
Setting up a PC +5Hours if you have the knowlage.

I had a new PC laptop and tried to get it working with an early SW and had an PC engeneer helping me it ended with that I had to return the PC and the hardwarecontroller and the SW.

Same here, I have my Asus hard drive in three partitions:
    1) Windows 7 (main boot up for everyday use and music editing),
    2) Windows XP (use this for DJ’ing only, have as much as I know off, no internet, no virus protection etc. etc.)
    3) Back up storage.

I ran TP2 on win 7 but had issues so I went back with XP (remember XP is like how old?)
Reason I have dual boot is I dont want my system messed when DJ’ing and the reason I have a storage back up is because at least once sometimes twice a year I need to reformat due to a virus. (sometimes I can fix them but sometimes its just better to install fresh.)

I’ve spoke to friends with mac’s and they laugh when I tell lthem my setup. Not saying I hate PC’s but all the points mentioned above took time and effort to do, with lots of trial and error.

Mac’s just seem to work, I’ve had random crashes with my laptop and traktor. Sometime i misx at home for 4 hrs with no issues sometimes I get them.

If you look also at the industry most perfessonal DJ’s and musicans use a Mac. Most Mac users love their system. I found that out with my iPhone, best phone I’ve ever owned!

So ppl please don’t take this as PC/windows bashing I still like my Asus, out of all my friends with Windows based laptops mine is the only one still runnning strong after 3 years!

I do whoever want to try the Mac and see if all the “hype” is true. (so far it is with my iPhone 3Gs)

Admittedly, much of the cost of a Mac is in aesthetics and branding, but one reason macs are so reliable is because they are proprietary. Only Apple makes them (unless you build a hackintosh of course). This means, from a developer standpoint, that there are a lot less scenarios to account for when writing drivers, apps etc. Compare that to PCs where there are infinite combinations of hardware and Windows versions to contend with. One of the reasons Macs usually “just work”.

Well what you say makes totally sense and good feedback however it will take me a long while before I will be able to afford a Mac they just way to expensive and besides the Denon MC 6000 is in my radar,

I currently have a Dell Studio 1558 Intel i5 430M at 2.27 Ghz running Windows 7 64Bit and 4Gig Ram and Traktor Pro with my Vestax VCI 100

I also run Tune Up utilities which has function called Turbo Mode that takes away alot of non essential background programs which helps alot

    A tip:
In my oppinion a Mac lasts about 2 times longer than a PC so you can buy a used Mac that is 2-3years old and it is still
a better computer than a new PC if you will run a DJ software on it. A used Macbook/Macbook Pro should be in a lower pricerange than a new PC…..

I have baught 7 Macs over the years all of them in 2nd hand with no problems.
Currently I have the 1st generation Macbook Pro from 2006! (And a Mac Pro 8core from 2009)
I can’t see any reason to not keep the Macbook Pro for several years to come, it runs very fast and well with Traktor 2 scratch pro. It also runs well with other musical programs like Ableton Live, Cubase and others.

Ok well I caved in yesterday and purchsed a 13″ Mcbook pro!!!! So excited! It will be at my door in a week! I chose the Pro over the Air mainly for the hard drive space and also a few other small things I know I will use on the Por vs the Air. Ill be writing more on it once I get to play wiht it for a bit

I have a MBP13″ for DJing. I’d go for the 15″ now if I could buy again, but having said that I freakin’ love the 13″. But my eyes aren’t what they used to be…

Yeah it will take time adjusting from 17″ to 13″ but now it will be sooo easy carrying around!

    A tip:
If you do not use the keyboard you could get a 15″ or even bigger screan and plug into you 13″ MBP 🙂

Christmas in September!!! My 13″ MBP arrived yesterday!! I love the size, nice and small, traktor is fine on it. It is a cahnge from teh 17″ but if i need the space for editing or graphics I’ll get a nice big flat screen.

A bit confusing to use and some time to figure out the OS but so far im loving it!
