Memberas long as the right advice is offered for total noobz to dj,ing not just the stuff people have and use. i.e a total new commer to djing will not need a denon mc6000 or a traktor s4. but would benifit from a basic controller and software like maybe a hercules running le if you get what i mean.

ParticipantDisagree – The fact that people want a beginners section indicates that people want to funnel off those questions so they don’t have to see them. So who is going to answer the beginners’ questions? It will be the blind leading the blind which doesn’t serve the long term interests of this community. Don’t get me wrong, the questions are frustrating – people need to actively research rather than passively research and if you need help with creative questions in a space that is purely creative – you might want to rethink the whole game.
What we do need is an FAQ or Wiki. Something that the community can contribute to and develop over time.
We were all new, lame and annoying once. Well, not me, I have been amazing from the very beginning.

I’m sure you were! Hehe 😉 (Yes, that comment was meant sarcastically and should not be taken seriously in any form whatsoever. ;))
In my experience and at least in my humble opinion, setting aside the topic here, it sometimes can be handy to incorporate all those frequently asked questions into a container of sorts, so new users to these forums can use them to their advantage and keeping the forums free/clean for the really interesting discussions.
The exact form/format is, imho, only secondary to the point having such a knowledge-base of the more novice typed questions.
Obligatory personal background bit; from gaming to programming, I’ve encountered these 101s, FAQs, KBs and other types read-firsts in some form; I’ve setup corporate Wikis and DMS’ in the past.
About your suggestions, I think the initial wording might have put you on the wrong foot, but in the end I think it comes down to the same thing. Whether it be 1 post summing up links to different resources (articles, FAQs, Wikis, whatnot) or perhaps a section dedicated to the new souls venturing into this field of new technology.
Somehow, somewhere, there has to be a pointer to the resources available for newcomers.
Ultimately, I think a Wiki would be the best solution.*
But to take your point into account, who would be responsible for the Wiki? The blind as well?It doesn’t really matter in what form it’s exactly done, and I’m sorry if I’m stepping on your turf here Phil, I think the main thing mr-stiffy tried to make was that it would be a great benefit for these forums in general if general information and pointers were available to newcomers in an easy “package”. The information would just be a hyperlink away. It’s more about making the information available more easily and centralised, instead having to browse/search the forum looking for specific information. It’s not about not seeing the questions, it’s about seeing the questions that matter.
A central DigitalDJing Wiki might also be a really strong unique selling point for this community as well!
Just my 2 cents, ymmv.

Perhaps a post or page on a Wiki (as SmiTTTen suggested), where the options could be listed?

Not too sure about that, as that’s mostly “static” information, a Wiki is usually much better suited at the more dynamic information.
However, all these ideas are good and well, but I’m more curious about Phil’s thoughts, as this is his brainchild afterall!

MemberI agree with Smitten, most “beginner sections” on forums get visited only by…well, beginners.

ParticipantRight now the main DJ Booth forum is generating around 50 threads a month which is fairly easy going traffic. If I was in Phil’s position, I don’t know that I would be making too many changes until the traffic and memberships gets a to critical mass. I have Phil on Skype and I can tell you that this guy is online and working at all hours of the day. What he has created is a site that is very very friendly and most importantly, beginner friendly. Nobody calls each other names and the community is genuinely out to help the rest of the community (with the exception of a couple of “LOOK AT ME” divas ;)) In short, let’s keep in doing what we are doing. Those who are more advanced, or are becoming more advanced should start thinking about how they can be proactive in educating others. I write, but not everyone likes writing. Some of you (Mr Mackney immediately springs to mind) make videos. Even if these are only published on the forum (or whatever the boss wants) they will do much to advance the community. Let’s avoid becoming a bunch of disconnected elitist idiots. I can’t tell you how many (non Dj) forums I have been on to ask questions only to get the immediate “rolls eyes” responses and people ranting on some inane pseudo-related topic that I have no clue or interest in.
Ok, I have used the word “community” far too many times. I am off to punish myself.

ParticipantI agree that a beginners sections is a bad idea. A wiki though is a good one. I’m known elsewhere on the web for answering quite a few of these newb questions. I have a well organized bookmark folder that I use quite often for commonly asked questions and have developed several tactful ways to say RTFM.

Nooooo, the solution is to start your own well organized bookmark folder with common questions, and don’t forget RTFM 😉

Membermaybe even a read me first manual that answers the main things 🙂 wiki could be the answer

ParticipantI’d rather keep it in chatter. The most I’d do is a “beginners start here!” section of links to some of the articles on the blog that we all think are “musts” to help beginners get past the usual questions.
