MemberIt appears that its not adjustable…the original crane stand had knobs so that you can adjust the laptop to the height and angle that you wanted. This one appears to be a fixed height and angle…

ParticipantHeck of a price break for people for many people who were going to utilize it in that position anyway…
I must admit when I first started seeing these I thought they were knock-offs as they didn’t display the Crane logo on the base like the original ones. If the 2nd tray is included that is another plus (and seems like a better solution than the add on tray for the original)
I’d like to get some feedback in the form of a review if stability/build quality has been compramised or this is truly the same crane stand minus the adjustability…what do you say Phil?

Member+1 @VinnyBlanc. I am desperately waiting for a review of this stand. Christmas is right around the corner and this seems like the perfect stocking stuffer.

ParticipantI’m up in the air on them all. I think they’re all a bit pricey.

ParticipantNow that I think about it….
Although built better, this model may suffer from the same problem as the Uberstand. Since, it is folded into its current position there is no way your laptop is going to fall forward, but if you give the stand a little shove backwards it could fall flat to the ground. I’m sure this would be a very rare occurence, but a built in “pin” or equivalent of the zip ties they give you with the uberstand would have remedied this?

MemberThat sticky out front leg is designed to slide under nightclub turntables if i recall, your average 1210 is a bit heavier then yer average laptop..

ParticipantVery true for the original Crane Stand. This newer (cheaper, stripped down) model no longer has the 2 clamps to lock it in to position.
For example Put a thousand pound weight on that center “leg” and pull forward on the tray and nothing happens. Now, give it a little shove backwards and it falls to the ground like an UBERstand? Or am I misunderstanding this new design?

MemberIf you look closely you will notice there is some sort of “click-lock” mechanism (bottom vertical tube, a silver pin is visible). Probably this locks the stand’s position so that it doesnt fall back. Im just guessing – I dont own the stand nor have I seen it live.

ParticipantAwesome find Softcore. If this is the case I think I am going to go with this model over the PRO.

MemberI ordered this stand not too long ago since I first posted this question, I had the chance to test it out and I
have to say it’s a really solid stand. It has a bit of a wobble when you push down on it and locks in place via two push pins. It’s really easy to setup and is relatively light compared to what other reviewers are saying about this product. There is no adjustability however, but the positioning when it is all set up sits perfectly. There is a little incline downwards so you’ll need to tilt your screen backwards to what is comfortable for you. There is an included shelf to fit your sound-card that you can place in the front or the back below your laptop which is convenient. I was a little skeptical at first since I wondered how it would hold up the weight of my laptop and not have it collapse on me but it works well so far. I’d definitely recommend this stand if you’re in the market for one.November 6, 2011 at 8:24 pm #9458VinnyBlanc
ParticipantThanks or the review Schies I know a bunch of people (myself included) have been waiting for this. I will probably go ahead and order one now…

ParticipantSince this is a fixed position does anyone know what the clearance is from base to where the lowest (front) part of the laptop would be. I was wondering if this would fit above a road case with the lid stacked underneath
