MemberShortest was about twenty minutes – was at a bar, the band didn’t have all the members and thought they were gonna no show – owner asked me to play, got everything set up played a couple warm up tunes…… then the band members arrived and I was promptly booted. Longest was my own doing – I got at the bar at about 7 pm figuring better early than late, then the prime time dj no showed – ended up playing till 2:30 am; about 7 and a half hours.

KeymasterI’m with JesC – been on for minutes at parties due to various situations, but I have also DJed 7 or 8 hours at times. Your feet ache at the end of that one!

MemberMy shortest set was planned to be an hour, but actually went on to be 90 mins.
Longest was a 7 hour stretch in a marquee during a storm of biblical proportions – the crowd wouldn’t let me stop – at one point I breathed a sigh of relief when the generator flooded, only for the amplified sound of my laptop rebooting to get an enormous cheer when the power kicked back in!!June 23, 2011 at 2:59 pm #115Ivyquake
MemberMy shortest set was 45 min. We had about 20 Djs at the rave party. Longest was about 5-6 hours. House parties of course

MemberAshamed to admit but I do regular 7 hour sets every other Friday..
As for the shortest set, I did one night in a new club, did a 15 minute set, then the PA died.. feels bad man 🙁June 23, 2011 at 7:06 pm #169DJ GRE
Memberalso… usually if I’m djing I try to take a nap earlier in the afternoon – One time I djed after being up from 6 am as it was a work day and the last two hours (12-2am) were just brutal on my neck, back and feet; especially since my job involves me NEVER sitting down.

ParticipantShortest set? Well for a long time I DJed at a club that had the same band every Friday night. I opened and DJed the band’s two 45 min breaks. It was nice, as when the band played I could dance and mix with the crowd. The band members were real friendly and we got along well. However, the band leader did not like the fact that I could put more folks on the dance floor than the band and keep them there for the entire set. He was always trying to go long or cut me short. my sets would often end up being only 30 minutes. The longest? I’ve done several outdoor events where I had to DJ and MC the entire event, 9 to 10 hours, and in the hot Houston summer weather.

ParticipantFour hours was the most I did.
Was playing at a Chicago club known as The Drink. That night a promoter was throwing a party in the back area, and most of the DJs he booked were used to playing short sets of Chicago hardhouse. Granted it was around 1999 or 2000, and Chicago hardhouse became passe to many clubbers while I was the lone wolf playing the more “newer” sound of trance.
So the other guys played short sets, and I seemed to win the crowd over with trance. The promoter asked me to play longer and I did…til closing. Great night.
Shortest set I did was 20 minutes. It was supposed to be an hour, but I was scheduled as the LAST set of the night at an all-night rave. 5AM til 6AM. Unfortunately everyone decided to call it a night at the beginning of my set and within 10 minutes everyone left. The promoter decided to just call it quits and close up shop. He made it up to me at another event with a better spot, but I was disappointed that night.
Generally though when anyone offers me a 30 min or less set I’ll tell them to take that time and disperse it among the other DJs so there’s transition time.

ParticipantI usually do around TWELVE hours every St Patricks day between a couple of clubs, it’s a proper marathon and can be quite confusing trying to makesure I don’t play a tune twice in the same venue!
As for the shortest, I got booked for Brixton Police Christmas Party one year and simply had to press play on a cd they had prepared for me as the setlist for the stripper they had booked…………..best thing was my DJ box was about 12 feet above her giving me a birds-eye view of the entertainment that night, AND I got her number ;)………………….Also got my full price wage…..RESULT!

MemberShortest would have to have been a 15min competition set, the longest would be 6.5 hours of house party – thats kills. No energy left for bump out at all!

Participantshortest set about half an hour, being changeover dj.

MemberLongest was about 10-11 hours shared with a DJ friend of mine back in 1997. Shortest was three 20 minute sets during a bands breaks. Most nights are 4-5 hours.

Member6+ hour sets?!?!?!? Rookie question here. As a rocker, my library is mostly rock tunes, but I have been building my DJing library, it’s about 10 hours +, but that’s everything. When you guys are doing marathon sets are you looping one part of a song for an extended period of time? Or do you just have massive libraries and amazing brains?
