    Really pisses me off when my mixes aren’t perfect. If you don’t want to over master it, I guess get someone to listen to 5 minutes either side of the mistake and see if they notice it. If they do, fix it, but if not, It’s only because you noticed it when doing it that it sounds bad.

    I get that all the time, I look over at a mate going eeeeeeesh and they’ve been standing there loving it lol.

    wow… 2 seconds – I think there’s medication for this… Just kidding, I am not a perfectionist to that extent, I like playing mixes on the fly most of the time so I learn to deal if it doesn’t go exactly the way I planned it in my head… But with the exposure this particular set is getting I can understand the feeling. Now, what exactly is wrong with the two seconds?

    Yes :);
    Strangely enough 3 people (one person who has been DJ’ing all over the World for 20 years; and 2 Prolific DJ’s; one from Canada; and one from Miami; have all said it is Perfect and that they Loved it);
    And so sometimes I wonder if it is our Moods at the time that Affect the way we Judge our Sets ?
    I was going to leave this Set for a week and go back to it and see how I felt; but I have been asked for it ‘Now’; so no time for me to be Pedantic about it as it needs to be Sent;
    But I have listened to the Transistion Twice since I wrote my Post; and I can’t even hear what the Problem was (even though I am now Searching for something to be Wrong);
    However; I am like this with All my Sets so I thought I would ask the question of the Group;
    Though I do Laugh when I occasionally do hear a Train Wreck as it gives me an Opportunity to try Harder 🙂

    Hello Dr Gre :);
    Thank You for your reply;
    I thought I better not Double Post; so I will add this and answer your queston here :);
    I have just pinned my Headphones to my Ears; and although it is Extremely Difficult now to find the 2 Seconds I was Unhappy with; having had this Niggly Feeling for a number of days; I can describe what was happening;
    Both of the Tracks are Deep House; and one of them is a straight 4 x 4 Kick; but the other one has some Toms that come in; and although they fit Exactly inbetween the Kicks; there is a ‘Whoosh’ Effect that comes in on one Track just as the Bassline on the other Track comes in; and my Brain was telling me that this just wasn’t ‘Right’ … I was thinking of Cutting the Tracks and using a 4th Deck to get rid of the ‘Whoosh’
    And although it sounds Great now; it is just your Question that makes this Forum Great as we can Share Techniques and Solutions with each other 🙂

    We’re always gonna find something to criticize about in our own works, it’s natural. The question is: overall, are you happy with it and did you work it out to the best of your ability.

    Hello Mike :);
    This was the First Deep House Set I have done; and I just Loved the way the Tracks flowed into each other; seemingly creating an Atmosphere of Calm; yet still Danceable (at 128BPM);
    I was Really Happy with it when I Completed it; and now; tonight; having heard it around 4 times – as I can’t Afford to allow myself to Blow a Chance that fell into my lap – I can’t even hear the 2 Second Problem I had been hearing before;
    So; Yes; I am Happy with it; and although I could ‘Tinker’ with it forever; I will listen again tomorrow as I would like to add just a little Delay to the ending of two Tracks; and then just Master it with Ozone 4;
    But Thank You for your interest; that is Very Kind 🙂

    i know how you feel emma i’m the same way. I’ve laid down some long mixes only to re-listen and hear a flaw that most listeners would i doubt even acknowledge but too me it’s a huge error and i’ll usually scrap the mix or keep rerecording it.

    I am So Guilty of Trashing Mixes (that Could be amazing) just because they are not Correct to the 16th Note/Beat;
    It has been suggested that I keep a Record (I used to on CDDJ’s) of Transitions that were Perfect; or in Digital DJ’ing a Copy of the Transitions that were Perfect; but until I Understand How to ‘Drag these Files’ into a New/Existing Ableton Project it just isn’t happening; and so; like you; often I Lose things that were Really special;
    Thank You DJ Steralise for your Empathy/Understanding; it means a Lot 🙂

    I’d honestly let it go. I used to be insanely hard on myself when I hear something slip a tiny bit, but now in this world of sync buttons and such, I’ve found people like to hear those tiny imperfections (if they even catch them).

    Most of the time people, even DJs, won’t catch those tiny quips…but others who do tend to think that it’s a live mix and thus respect it more than one that’s all sync and studio produced. Only time I see people come down on a DJ is when it’s a total trainwreck or really bad blend.

    For me now, perfectionism is trying to keep a very smooth mix from start to finish…so there’s no boring points.

    Emma, I’d probably tell you to edit it in a program like Sound Forge and see if you can clean that up if it bothers you that much.

    You brought some Memories back for me then;
    As I remember rewinding Cassettes Many times having noticed Sasha; Danny Rampling; Carl Cox; Pete Tong; make a ‘Small’ indiscretion; but I do remember ‘Smiling’ at these points as it made me feel these ‘Heroes’ were actually ‘Human’; and so maybe being ‘Human’ isn’t So Bad after all :);
    Regardless of whether I use Ableton or not; I Always Record my Sets Live; but Thank You for your Kindness in your reply 🙂

    I honestly think if I listened to your sets I wouldn’t catch any of the “imperfections” unless I listen to them several times over.

    I love Sound forge. I will be so nice if they have it on the Mac!!! I usually use it to split my mix into tracks 🙂

    Audition is a lovely replacement (yeah that open beta was a very nice touch). I’ve used SF for years and it’s the only software I found comfortable with after changing sides.

    I listened to the set Emma…it’s perfect as is. I didn’t catch that 2 seconds you talked of. I know we’re our own worst critics…but it’s a solid set.
