ParticipantTold someone I’d rather get an STD than play the Black Eyed P**s track that was being requested.

MemberI don’t have yet a personal “funniest moment”, but anyway i’ve only had about 7 or 8 gigs until now, but in my last one(last Saturday night) i finally did it live for the first time: stopped the wrong deck. I find it funny because I remember Phil commented here somewhere about doing it something like “We ALL did it”, and the first thing that came to mind when I did it, even before i started the deck again, was that comment. So I was just smiling when pressing play again, remembering the capitalized “ALL” in Phil’s comment. Just so true 😀
Funny enough, it helped me both to concentrate but also to relax a bit; it was early in the night, spinning Lounge, just 20/30 people there having first drink, so it didn’t killed any mood.

MemberWell, two moments come to mind..
First CDJ gig, connected the players to the wrong channels (A to B and B to A).. When I figured out what I did wrong me and the other two DJs couldn’t stop laughing for a few minutes..
The other was a 10 minute long situation.. some guy was trying to take a picture of me and his friends in the DJ booth and he had a new camera. So he points, the focus light comes on aaaand.. no flash, no pic. He gets confused, presses the button a few more times, still nothing happens. He lowers the camera to look what’s wrong and suddenly it takes a photo of his feet.. Now imagine that happening 5 times in a row. I laughed so hard there I almost missed a mix 🙂August 23, 2011 at 5:58 am #6171Jack White
MemberI had one guy come up to me and he was requesting some 70’s track.
Bearing in mind this was a house and electro night, I explained (politely) that there was a set theme, and whilst I would play that track any other time, tonight was not the night. He stands arguing with me for a good 5 mins. He gets increasingly irate and takes my pausing the argument to mix for me being arrogant. He then proceeds to threaten me with violence, so I grab the closest bloke to the DJ booth and ask if he could go to the door and get security for me. He returns with our head doorman. I explain the situation to security and has the offending male ejected. The bloke who went to get security looks a bit confused as to why the man was removed and so follows him out of the club.
It turned out that the man I sent for security was the offending male’s best friend! I did have a little laugh with the door staff.

MemberA DJ friend of mine left a bottle of poppers open on top of a heater in the DJ booth. The next DJ (a girl wearing a thong) toward the end of her set started to pass quite a lot of gas and eventually her colon just before she was able to play her last track. Due to the thong there was a smelly hotdog cut in two on the floor of the booth.

🙂And that’s why they gave us the Hamster switch on mixers: :p
Yeah we all must have done that one, and the Hamster has saved me from my own gormlessnes a few times once i worked out why the channel i want to bring in is going quietAugust 23, 2011 at 3:00 pm #6192U31

MemberLast time I was DJ-ing in the UK, I was playing mostly remixes and mashups throughout the night (that’s my style and I had built up a little bit of an audience during my time there). Near the end of my set, around the 2nd or 3rd to last song, I hear a voice from behind the left stack of speakers rise up over the music: “I FUCKING HATE THESE REMIXES. BOOOOOOO REMIXES! BOOOOOO!” I couldn’t see the guy, but I could see plenty of people’s faces looking in his direction in confusion and little bit of disgust. I found it really entertaining because for me, as long as I’ve managed to get a reaction out of someone – good or bad – I feel like I’ve done my job. Indifference = failure for me. I’m proud that my set was so provoking that it caused this guy to cry out. 😛

KeymasterMy biggest boo-boo was closing my laptop at the end of a laptop DJing session in my club, 2005, and the Windows shutting down theme blasted out over a 10k sound system. Was bizarre, had the club screaming with laughter, but was ultimately completely uncool!

MemberI used to have a laptop that opened AOL every time I’d switch it on. Joanna Lummley never sounded as lush as she did over a funktion one.
