    This is Really Interesting Michael;
    And for a Person who has a Reasonable Disposable Income would Definitely Save Them A Lot Of Time;
    But for me Personally I Like to have ‘Control Over My Tracks’; and Warp Them How I Wish;
    However; that is Not what this Thread is about; so to Continue with your Suggestion;
    Well; to Deviate a Little 🙂
    What a Business Opportunity This Is For Me !
    Wow 😎 😎
    I would Charge Half This Much 🙂

    Anyway; for a DJ who has a Number Of Residencies; and Chooses to Use Ableton or Traktor; I can see this as a Great Opportunity for them; which would Actually (Possibly) Take Out The Repeat Sets from Big DJ’s I am hearing these days; which Literally make me Turn Off; as I think the Playing The Same Set Is Boring (as a Punter Expecting Something ‘More’ for My Money);

I don’t mind beatgridding, but I’d pay extra to avoid the time and hassle.

    I thought of this because I got an email from a DJCity, and they tout their record pool mp3 files as having “Serato cue points and pre-built overviews.”

    Are there any online retailers doing this already, other than DJCity? If so, are they any good/worth it?

    I own a couple of tracks from DJCity, and cue points that are included in the tracks are fairly basic (ie: Intro, Outro), at least on Serato Itch. I have yet to use the tracks with Serato Scratch Live.

    Thanks, Emma and Justin. Seems like there would be a fairly large market for this type of thing.

    It’s a good idea, but then they should include the means for the track to be used in any program. Like having a .tqd file for Torq and the same things for Ableton, Traktor, VDJ, and Serato.

    I dunno. I never seem to have issue with it. One scan and 99% of the time the track is perfect in Torq.

    For a lot of my music, Traktor does a pretty good job. But I tend to throw in some odd, non-EDM tracks once in a while—stuff with live drummers, unusual breaks, and older tunes that are a royal bitch to beatgrid. I’d pay an extra $1 to have those tracks warped into a stable grid, just to have the convenience of being able to throw them in the mix on a whim (without spending too much time trying to match beats manually).

    Pre-gridding is not possible in traktor as the cue points etc are stored in a traktor library file, unlike Torq with its .tqd files. I dont know about serato though.

    Thanks, Haroon.

    I downloaded Ableton Live last night and watched a few demos on warping. Would it be possible to warp a song into a more uniform rhythm, then export it and import it to Traktor?

    I don’t believe so. The warping in Ableton is done on the fly using it’s own engine. BTW are you analysing the files in traktor or just marking them with manual beatgrids?

    Based on my experience…yes.

    When I did warping in Ableton, the idea is that it would manipulate the song into the beat grid. You might possibly see some distortions, but I think it did a phenomenal job. Some DJs in the past even used to use DAWs to warp and tweak tracks so there wouldn’t be any thinking involved when they played. Mind you though this was before the age of laptop DJing, so these guys would then export the warped tunes to audio CDs.

    In Torq it till get more reversed. You can set anchor tags and such to manipulate the sync to stay even with a tune that’s uneven. So you’re playing some old disco tune that’s before the age of drum machines, you can set up the program to sync a tune to the uneven beat.

    Thanks, D-Jam. I do play a considerable number of older disco tunes once in a while. I can generally mix them in fine, but it would be nice to have them a little more uniform to open up further creative manipulation.

    Haroon, I am using Traktor to analyze the tracks, then beatgridding them manually when necessary. There are just some songs that I find impossible to grid perfectly—the older disco and dance tracks mentioned above, for instance, can be notoriously difficult, especially those with live drummers. Again, i can work around those limitations, and I suppose there are some songs that I should just give up on and mix by ear, but I’m always trying to make my live gigs as smooth as possible.

    I’d probably tell you either to look into remix service catalogs and you might find people who did this already, while adding in clean intros and breaks. Or if you’re on another DVS, then look into Ableton or some DAW kind of program that allows for this level of warping.

    Hello Michael :);
    If you Warp a Track in Ableton; then Export it as a .wav File; the File you will have Exported will Sound ‘Exactly’ how it Sounded in Ableton (for instance if you had Warped a Track Originally at 83BPM – to 127BPM by placing your Warp Markers within Ableton); the Exported Track will Play at 127BPM;
    Then; if Traktor takes .wav Files (or if not just Convert it to MP3); when you Import it into Tracktor the Tracks BPM will be 127; Not the Original Tracks 83BPM (as it was before you Warped it in Ableton)

    Excellent! Thanks, Emma. That’s exactly how I hoped it would work.

    And since you’re our Ableton expert here, do you know of any warping tutorials—in particular, those that show how to warp difficult songs (like a 70s disco tune with a live drummer)? Thanks!
