Why did he go first? Why did I bring my equipment just for him to play on it the rest of the night? Why do I even do this? Why do I spend all my hard earned cash on this just for professionals to steal my opportunities away?

Why would somebody set me, an amateur, up with a professional who plays big name clubs in Vegas and LA? How fair is this?

Screw this I’m selling all my equipment I don’t care I will just sell all my stuff, lights, everything. I have put too much money into something I am just getting showed up in by professionals.

I know how you feel! I think everyone has experienced this when they were starting out, i’ve only been DJing a year myself and I have felt like rubbish, but I persisted and comparing my mixes now from a year ago there’s already a big difference. The DJ your referring to would have had a moment like this too. But it’s how you motivate yourself from watching/listening to better DJs. Learn from them and have comfort knowing they’ve been doing it for years. Try to be the best you can be. It can help motivation to compare yourself to DJs at a similar level and trying to better yourself conpared to them. Remember DJ’s wern’t born that good they had to work hard to get good and it sounds like you already know that because you said he’s been doing it all his life. He has lots of remixes and edits but he would of started off with a few and added little and often building up to the collection he has today. People thinking about DJing might have a similar feeling watching you now, and in the future DJs just starting out might have a similar feeling watching you when you’ve been doing it a while. Don’t give up, keep practising and learn from others.

    Branden,

Did you ever play out a set? Could you give us a better picture of what happened? For instance, what time was the gig? Was the party full by the time DJ X started? Did the DJ X ask you to use your equipment or did he simply plug into your mixer? Also, I’m wondering if DJ X only played a couple of sets and left, but you were the MAIN DJ to keep the crowd going long into the night? Just wondering if you could give us more details.

I think you are overstating things a bit, and generally you are thinking too much. It is obvious there will be people that somewhat better more experienced etc. But you are missing a thing – not all Djs are the same. There must be a thing that makes a difference between you and the other guy. Find it and use it to show that you are a worth “opponent” don’t think negative only. Djing is a hard field to operate, you must be determined to become what you wanna be – a good DJ.

Please ignore this thread. I ended up DJ’ing for the huge crowd for about an hour before the police arrived and I killed it!! I did quite a bit of some scratching tricks and stuff and my transitions were great, I kept the crowd hyped!!! My post is jibberish please ignore my negativity. And thank you for the support.

You should let his “greatness” to pump you up, fueled you up, flame you up, motivate you , learn from it, to better yourself more
