ModeratorPersonally, depending on budget, I would go for small (8 or 10″ active) PA speakers, as they will mimic club PA sound as close as you can in small spaces. And you wouldn’t really need a sub. Not for teaching/training purposes anyway. For monitor, I am totally stuck on the NPM-100’s I am abusing them as stage monitors and DJ monitors and have already used them as (speech) sidefills. I was gonna stick with one, but think I might just get another one.

ModeratorElectro-Voice by the look of the logo (the rest of the pic is not very good lol). Good brand. And sure you can do single 12″. Bit more bass than the 8s and 10s, defo no need for a sub in that surrounding. Big enough for a small room. I wouldn’t get passive though. Unless you plan on getting mono amps and even then it’s an extra bit of gear you need to place somewhere. Amps are relatively noisy (especially the serious PA kind) and in a small room that will become audible (and probably a nuisance). Active amps have the amplifier in the back so behind the speaker that produces the music. As long as it is playing, it will mask the amp sound completely. This might not be true if you have the amp sitting in or next to the booth.
American Audio XSP10-A, Behringer EuroLive B210D in the low end segment, (for example) Yamaha MSR250 for the middle segment and you can go crazy with RCF, QSC and the likes in the high end.
If you want 12″, I can really recommend Mackie HD1221. I have had a pair for three years now I think and they are awesome, relatively compact and very, very nice sound (actually got compliments again this weekend from the wife of the organiser about the quality of the sound).

ParticipantI apologized for the bad pic, takin from a 1999 phone with no flash (lol)
And I apologized again for the crappy pic lol, so this is the place that I’m planning to open at, as you can see (based on the front of the sliding door) the width is about 8 tiles and the length inside about 10 tiles and I’m planning to split those area inside into two studios, hopefully it will fit (somehow) lol
I realized it’s not that big, but Its so expensive to rent a place these days. Guess start small first, i reckonAnd judging by the small space I will have, based on your recommendation, I would go with single 12 inch (active) on each studio with no subs, I will defo check out the Mackie HD1221, hopefully they willing to let me hear the sound from it

ModeratorIt will be hard to seperate the sound from both rooms once you have it set up. So if both are rented out/in use, you will hear each other. Best bet for starters would be to have both speakers with their backs against each other (with the wall in between). And how about the neighbours?

ParticipantThe neighbors wont be a problem, as we already granted a permission from the landlord lady, if they still bitchin I glued their ears in one of those big 12 inches lol
Thank you for the tips, Chuck, you are the MAN for the sounds universe !

KeymasterMaybe use one of those new and cheap LD all-in-one PAs. They sound pretty decent (got to listen to one at musikmesse Frankfurt) and even have a small PA mixer in the sub to connect several sources.
The smaller systems cost well below 500 bucks and come with a sub and 2 satellites.October 18, 2013 at 4:07 am #1014641Lamid45G
