    Mac everytime. I switched to Mac back in February and wished I had done it sooner. Buy a Mac and you will LOVE it. You can’t love a PC, it’s just not possible.

    Dammit Rob, I was about to say that this thread has been up nearly 24 hours and there was not one post about a Mac! 😀

    Honestly, it doesnt make that much difference, (I use a PC and it’s never had problems!) but whatever you choose, but just make sure you can get as much RAM as you can, as well as a reliable PC brand. For example, I used to work in a computer store, and the number of HPs we had to send back to be repaired was ridiculous! Hence why I went via the Dell route.

    Although a Mac apparently makes you look “cool”…. 😎

    Would you recommend samsung then? 1000 dollars with i5 second generation, 4gb RAM…..

    That sounds fine. 4GB ram is recommended for musical use on a computer. If it costs that much then the CPU will be fine too. Otherwise you want as much disk space as you can get for all your tunes!

    whatever floats your boat. Mac’s have proven to be the best investment over a Windows machine, up until windows 7, so nowadays it might be a wash…

    I personally prefer a mac over a PC. HOWEVER…

    Personal Gripe Starts Here….
    I’m a little upset with apple these days, the macbook is gone and that was my next investment. I do like this macbook air, but with so little internal storage, it’s upsetting…
    I use an external drive hooked up via eSata (Speed). It’s gone 🙁
    So, I think my next investment will actually be in a windows based machine vs. a macbook pro, unless I run across a great deal…

    The entry level MB Pro is only a £100 more than the White MB was and is more than capable of running DJ software. I would avoid the Air as you are sacrificing a lot of power just be smaller and lighter.

    I eventually did the full switch after having a Macbook and a Windows 7 laptop.. Now have a Macbook and a iMac.

    I will never own a Windows based computer again. I had a high spec Windows 7 laptop and it struggled to run Ableton 7 and 8 also Traktor (not at the same time). I also have niggly little things like how Windows can complicate settings and installing items and folders upon folders etc.

    Mac: I love how simple and user friendly it is. Just plug and play, settings are easy to adjust, keyboard shortcuts (as standard) are brilliant. I had a low spec Macbook and even that run Ableton 7 & 8 easily aswel as Traktor..

    My ONLY negative thing i can say about MacOS is that will using Windows for so many years i can navigate round it quicker while doing graphic design or sorting music etc.. But that will quickly change.

    Go for it. Samsung are a quality brand, and an i5 processor with 4GB of RAM should do the job. If you can though, get as much RAM as possible, as that’s what keeps your computer crash free while DJing (mostly). I have 6GB of RAM in my computer and I’ve never had problems. Also if you’re using Traktor, the program only uses one core of the processor anyway, so processor specs are mostly useless here.

    And personal gripe time – $1000 for a i5 with 4GB RAM? Here in Australia, the equivalent Mac with those specs would cost at leat $2000…. Macs just aren’t good value, unless you love OS X.

    Sorry to be the bearer of bad news Emma – it’s just the facts! HP tend to sell machines based on fancy features and marketing, not build quality. But then again all manufacturers have problems, it’s just a question of what percentage of machines are faulty. And in regards to your Sony, it all depends what was the problem was in the first place – it could have been easily fixable, or not at all…

    (and HP, please dont sue me for defamation. Cheers ;))

    With my Sony Vaio I ended up with a Rolling Blue Screen (meaning that I would start Windows Normally; and when it had done that; it would Crash to the Blue Screen again); I think I tried a number of times with the Restore DVD I have; and where that had Always Worked in the past; it just stopped doing anything;
    It only had 700MB of Ram and Never Crashed Any Programmes I had;
    But this HP I have with 2GB of Ram (all I could afford – and that is a Loan); and it Crashes my Software at least 3 times a day; and just seems Useless :()

    Sounds like software issues, not the actual hardware itself…..

    I’ve got a question. I want to start seriously with DJíng. The first thing what I need is a laptop.
    But should I take Windows or MacOS?

    Hi there, you might wish to read the other laptop recommendation threads already posted on the forum too, like:

    Ive been in the same boat about mac or pc till the other day when i talked it ovre with a computer nerd friend of mine. He showed me that for the price of a decent mac, you can have a laptop built for the same price that is 2-3 times better than the mac which made me think, is the mac just a style thing or a must have for DJs? Or is it acceptable by high upper class DJs to DJ on a pc that is just a good or better performance wise?

    It really is down to preference and yes Macs are slightly overpriced for what they are. But for that price most DJ’s have the peace of mind of realiability compared to a windows based system.. Macs aren’t perfect and do crash and freeze etc but people find them more reliable than windows as said.

    Its also down to budget and comfort. But another thing was that i have had a mac for 5 years and it still runs smooth and strong, i had a very high spec windows based laptop and it got shit on after 3 years.
