If we accept the fact that there always be someone who’s got better gear and or does it better, and be ok about it, because what we do/got is good enough, we will live a much happier life.

i go by the saying, if it aint broke, don’t fix it. i just make sure i have backup for most things.

That is why I am limiting myself to high(er) end gear these days. My Mackie HD-series PA is awsome and not going out of fashion/quality anytime soon. Denon MC6000 is (semi)pro, lasts forever and has everything I want in a controller (not one for finger drumming and such, so no need for all these extra pads). Denon is faithful to it’s models, so no “new one every year crap”. My SC-2900s and X1600 setup is just sweet (although I haven’t yet gotten in as fully operational and connected as I want, but that’s a matter of available time) and won’t go out of fashion for a few years either.

But yeah, choices are plentiful, temptations even more so.

Good luck with resisting them & greetinx,
    C.

    It is always tough,
The tought cross my mind all the time, should i replace my ye old faitfully controller that I’ve been using it for the last 5 year or so ? If I do want to replace it why ? for what ? I mean it aint broke or anything, lol, and I’m getting the same gigs anyway with or without my upgraded controller anyway (hell, sometimes i didn’t even bother to bring it along anyway)
Sooo in the end I’m saving up for something to improve my skills, something I never learned before, ya know maybe trying out DJing with Ableton, they said its different

Do not fall to G.A.S. (gear acquisition syndrome).
If its working for you why change it?
Only if you know why you need something else (new feature you really want to incorporate) then go for it… aka BUY WHEN YOU NEED.

Boy! I’d only had my Denon MC6000 a couple of months before Pioneer introduced the DDJ-SX with the keypads etc. I saw all the pretty lights on the controller and Serato DJ and almost turned into a “gear head”. I wanted the controller!!! I wanted to get rid of using Traktor and go with Serato…change of scenery.

Once the fresh coat of paint dried, all was well with me. Do I still want the DDJ-SX? Well, maybe, but it’s not something I want to go pick up today. LOL

Wow, I actually don’t really feel the need to switch out my hardware that much at all. However, that is probably because I much prefer a DVS setup to pure controllers. However, I do always feel the need to tweak things – I always have new ideas for midi-maps on my controllers, and add different little nuances pretty regularly. My dicers are pretty beastly right now, haha. They control hot cues, loop rolls, loops, delay/echo out/gater/beat slicer, key lock, auto-doubles, and deck ejection. Mapped the microphone controls on the DJM 850/900 to the key parameter in traktor (boy is that fun), and the “fader start” buttons that never get used to control slip mode.

So I suppose instead of constantly thinking about new gear, I’m always imagining what I can do with MIDI. Always tinkering, wondering what will work best.

I’m not so bad with audio gear now, but lighting has become my bane at the moment. I know my setup is half decent, but I’m always finding new light’s that I think would look awesome in my setup. The customers probably don’t care that much about the lights, but I like everything to look pretty and awesome!!
