KeymasterWhat you are trying to do is impossible without an external sound card. Using soundflower is bogus.

Bogus as in impossible, or bogus as in you just don’t like it?

ParticipantGreetings, B.B. It would help if you could give a more detailed explanation of what you’re trying to accomplish, but here goes anyway. Soundflower is a very cool little audio routing program, but agree with T. that it probably won’t do what you want. The main issue is that to both cue in headphones and output to master, you need two distinct output destinations. With your current setup, there’s only one (aggregate device, built in output). This isn’t because of Soundflower, you need another output device. Like T said, sound card is prolly best, but what should also work is the DJ Cable from Traktor. Send monitor to ‘phones, main to built in output. But you have another issue – it seems you want to use the system mic, and this is problematic with Soundflower. Notice that it monitors line in and mic – this means system alerts, skype, etc are going to show up in your audio input. So you have to shut all that stuff down, and this is probably one of the reasons T calls it bogus 🙂
And, if you’re trying to do a quality podcast/streamcast, built in mic isn’t going to serve you well.

Hi Steve:
Thank you very much for this! This is the kind of help I needed exactly! As luck would have it, the Traktor DJ cable has been ordered, since Traktor’s Ios app is also something that will be eventually used with the Ipad.
What I was essentially trying to do was assist a friend DJing while they stream to a site. We wanted to be able to talk to one another via Skype (without it playing with the mix) while they still had the ability to cue and output the master. I am assuming this might not be possible to do both at the same time?
So in Traktor’s output routing/sound card settings, that DJ cable will allow me to select one side for headphones and one for master audio via the built in output without an issue then?
Since they do not have any sort of speakers other than their built in output on the macbook, we will have to go that route.
Your explanation is very concise, and I appreciate it. It’s only a matter now of routing everything correctly, and S-canning Soundflower (we already uninstalled it).
Thanks for your time.

KeymasterExactly you cannot do both at the same time, soundflower is not made to do that. (I like soundflower, it is a neat program especially for broadcasting, but not in the way you try to do it.)
There has to be enough hardware devices to route things to. Why I said only an external soundcard will work (even a cheapish “iMic” – USB) as you could route traktor to that sound card use the traktor cable to split output and headphones and route skype to the internal sound card. So both would use 2 different devices and there would be no “cross traffic” and no speaking over your mix. However this you can easily do by using Skype and Traktors built in setups. You would only need soundflower if you do not use Traktors built in broadcasting, but want to split to Icecast or something similar.

Thank you, Terry. I appreciate both you and Steve’s input very much. I am a PC guy by trade, and my friend just bought a mac. Although I can navigate a mac on a basic level, this was really screwing me up. I can get them to use Icecast within Traktor, but they were also considering using BUTT. At any rate, thanks guys. Big ups and respect.
