ModeratorLOL, empty house at the hotels I worked at! With thursday through sunday being moderately to very busy and monday’s closed, tuesday and wednesday in a 5-star business hotel aren’t exactly all that hot. So there have been quite a few times I’d have nobody there. Since you can’t play nothing, I’d revert to either (compilation) albums, homemade mixes or vinyl mixes (they were around even then). More often I would actually just play, getting to know newer tracks better, trying out various mixes. It’s like practicing in your bedroom, only in a fully equipped club and getting paid (rather well) for it 8-).

ParticipantNice…It sounds like a good Practice Session :). The Gigs I was doing was just social things that turn into little “mini parties”. You have some cool songs and nice mixes and you got people tapping toes and then before you know it dancing….and with a small simple battery powered speaker set mind you. 😉

ParticipantI’ve played for empty venues before. Kind of a drag, but then again, you can play whatever you want!

ParticipantDone plenty of small parties which doesn’t bother me. 10, 100, 1000 I charge the same price. What irks me is when someone hires a venue that’s much too big for the number of guests. I see it happen all the time.

ParticipantPlayin at the Spa Lounge…kind of weird…
All the message therapist just all sat nicely, just stared at me…
The customers just sat around and watching TV…
But ish all good i guess ?August 21, 2013 at 7:22 am #43318Milos Djordjevic
ParticipantI played for a Dead spot last new years eve. It was a bar connected to a restaurant right down the street from a few huge clubs, most of the people there were waiting for their reservation next door at the restaurant. It was rather boring but luckily the staff was super awesome and I still got paid NYE rates 🙂

KeymasterWell in all those years you get the occasional empty place for different reasons…
One time I was hired for a special party in a club when at midnight it was still empty I asked what was going on, they told me that they were trying to get people into the club, but apparently there was a festival at the nearby lake…
DJed also once to a nearly empty club when they forgot to actually send out the flyers that the club was re-opening after being closed for 6 months… suffice to say the re-opened club did not survive long either…These things happen.
However I really enjoy DJing in smaller environments, like a smaller bar with 50 people or in a friends garden with only 20 or so… the setting is much closer and you get more direct feedback. Sadly does not happen too often as those smaller gigs do not really pay off and I am not doing it for free…August 22, 2013 at 12:11 am #43355Edwin Alvarez

Participantshotgun wedding is a last minute wedding, normally the bride is pregnant and they want to marry before the child is born.

MemberI actually prefer making performances for smaller groups of people, the atmosphere is more intimate, I ussualy can play, create whatever I want, which is an important factor for me, I don’t know maybe I’m different. The smallest performance ?
couple of random people I didnt expect to come to listen.August 22, 2013 at 4:55 pm #43391Coltrane09
ParticipantI will be doing a baby shower in two weeks. Just providing background music and will try to get the ladies to dance just a little bit without having the mother-to-be wobble the kid out too early.

ParticipantAt one of my first club gigs, the “crowd” consisted of a bartender, bar back, door guy, & a manager.
No paying customers showed up that night.
