The only problem I have with that is that key changes in a playing song are usually VERY audible. It is after all the reason that the first pro DJ CD-players introduced key lock while changing tempo, because even a little tempo change could be noticed.
One of the reasons is that (from my limited theoretical knowledge of music, so shoot me please) to get to the next semi-note, you may have to go through a key that really sounds horrible.
The human ear is way more sensitive to a key change than it is to a speed change.
Not saying it can’t or shouldn’t be done, but it takes an awful lot of finesse.
