Serato ITCH is about the only software, I really messed around with, when choosing something i tend to stay away from the popular choice (aka Traktor), I didn’t say Traktor is bad, each to its own…
At the time I was comparing ITCH to Traktor, and I said Hmmm…ITCH got more prettier color waves than Traktor (at the time), of course I didn’t realize that ITCH didn’t come with the built-in FX, plus Traktor felt too stiff for my taste compared to ITCH,
In the end its a pointless, useless, never-ending debate anyway (its like debating religion =p)
    Choose what’s comfortable to you…

Not a Mixtrack user, so this is just based on what I’ve read. As I understand it, the controller ships with DJ Intro rather than the full version of Serato, and not all the functions map to the Mixtrack – you have to upgrade. Perhaps this is the problem you are experiencing. Also, depending on the amount of time/effort you want to put in, you could download a demo version of Tractor Pro, a map for the controller (http://www.traktorbible.com/freaks/mappingview.aspx?id=639) and give it a go.

General consensus seems to be Serato is easier to use, better for scratching, Traktor allows for more creativity (and is said to be the choice of pros, whatever that means). Agree with djrizki – what’s comfortable to you is what’s best.

But no matter which you choose, you will want to upgrade to the full version.

Hi and welcome to the forums!

Indeed the Mixtrack Pro ships with Serato Intro which is a dialed down version of the “real” software. For everything to work you need to go to serato.com and purchase an upgrade to Serato DJ, which is the full version with much more goodies included and much better mappings. The Intro software is basically just so you can start with the controller and get a taste and this is nothing to be worried about, most controllers come with a dialed down version of the software. Only some higher end controllers have a full version included.

Good thing your crates etc. from Serato Intro will work in Serato DJ and it will detect them upon installation, so none of your work is lost.
However I have not used the crates much I have to admit. I am doing most of my playlist work and set compilation in iTunes and Serato has a switch in its preferences that you need to check and then you whole iTunes library with all songs and playlists will show inside Serato (both Intro and the full version can do that).

You can always give MixVibes Cross a try. The “commitment” would be a whopping 49 dollars for a full version. Not gonna break the bank I think?
