If latency wasn’t a problem before and you haven’t changed anything related to it (i.e. updated Traktor, updated drivers, updated windows) and the only other thing you changed is going from balanced (Jack/XLR) to RCA’s, then that would be the first place I’d be looking.

Troubleshooting usually boils down to that. Is there a clear cause? If not, what did I change recently that could cause this problem? Change things one by one, if you change more than one thing at a time, you won’t know what caused the problem.

Usually (but I say this with a lot of reserve) latency presents itself as “hick-ups”, “drop-outs” and such. Pop and crackle (depending on the definition of it lol) COULD very well have to do with interference picked up over the unbalanced lines. What length RCA are you running? Are you passing anything that could cause interference with your cable?

The rca cables are rather long but the only thing i changed was my speakers because my other ones broke so im just using a pretty bad pair while i save money for rotkit 5s

Are you saying you used the same cables before? And are they new or old(er) cables? Could it be the speakers making the noise?

If the same cables, then they COULD be damaged when plugging out of the old and into the new speakers (especially older cables).

Best thing is to test the entire sound chain.

First thing to try is hooking up your mp3 player/ipad/iphone/ipod with a 4ft mini-jack to RCA cable to the S4 (channel D, make sure the switches are set to line and thru). This will allow the S4 to play music off your device directly to speakers (only the master volume knob is active). No crackles? The problem is most likely in the PC. Still crackles? It’s not the PC that is at fault, but something else.

Next thing to try would be to hook up your device directly to the speakers. No crackles? Probably the RCA cable is at fault. Still crackles? The fault probably lies in the speakers.

The only way to make sure it’s the speakers is by replacing (on of) them with another speaker.

    Hope that helps.

thanks i plugged my phone into my s4 no crackles then i plugged it into the speakers no crackles that means its either my laptop or the rca cables however i went to audio settings, diagnostics and it started counting the dropouts(crackles it got to over 100 in 1 song and said my computer cant handle turn up usb buffer and sample rate i turned it all up to max still having problems any solutions. Oh the only thing that worked was i made the audio device my laptop and plugged in a 3.5 to rca in my laptop and it worked perfect except i couldnt cue in my headphones.

Nope, if it was the cables, it would have crackled when you plugged the phone into the S4.

    So, latency settings then.

I remember seeing the window you mentioned with the diagnostics, but can’t find them atm in my Traktor.

256-1024 is the range for buffer. Wouldn’t mess with the sample rate if not necessary.
