ModeratorStill using the previous version I had a charity event last weekend and after the official bit was over I closed traktor (was using my MC6000 and MBP 15″) and opened Cross. I was off to a flying start, the whole sync thingie worked much easier/more intuitive than with Traktor. The mapping is as tight as possible out of the box. Everything worked as expected.
I think I am really sold and will start the official switch shortly. Need some library work but that’s what summer is for.
Greetinx and thanks for the heads up!

Participantyou can import you Traktor collection into Cross with all hotcues 😀 just go to files -> import third party database and import the traktor collection.nml you still need to analyse songs for the waveform but you keep all the hot cues.

ModeratorThanks for the tip. I had seen that option, wasn’t too sure if it actually worked. And, wonderful people at MixVibes, you gave us the OPTION of either traditional or harmonic (=Camelot) key notation! YES. And when you search your database it actually shows matching keys in Orange automatically. Gotta love it. I am falling in love with these guys fast!

ParticipantI’m really really tempted to pick up Cross. Looks like a fantastic bit of software, would be able to use my MC6000 for timecode for my 2 turntables that just sit there doing nothing at the moment, and they also have built in support for my SC2900’s! And it’s cheap as chips!!
Chuck, care to give your opinion, as I am also coming from traktor?

KeymasterOk Chuck you enthusiasm got me… I will test Cross over the weekend.

ModeratorHaven’t played with the DVS end of things, as I’d have to hook up my coffin (and I am busy atm with normal work and lazy when I am not working :-))
I’d be using DVS with my 2900s (built-in timecode, so no disc necessary. Provided the right frequency is in there, but I believe it is) and X1600 which I think should work perfectly.
As far as using the MC6000 as timecode soundcard, I am not sure. Theoretically you can set the MC6000 to send ch1/ch4 input to USB 3/4 on the PC. So, you would think that by routing the usb 3/4 to DVS 1 and 2 in Cross it should work (provided you are using the original Cross TC vinyls. However, reading some posts on other fora here and there, I don’t think anyone has managed to get that working yet. Definitely something I could check. Hang my 2900 on the MC6000 and see what happens if I use the timecode on the 2900. Will keep ya’ll posted on progress. Sounds like a great sunday chore.
As far as using Cross in general goes. The trial is pretty full featured (just no DVS, it’s the DJ version) and free for 30 days. So my advice would be to install that, hook up the MC6000 (pretty much plug and pray in my case) and just test the h*ll out of it for 30 days.
As Gulli so kindly pointed out, you can import your Traktor database with all your cuepoints (all you need to do is run analyze for the waveforms), so a flying start.
Read the (not too long) manual before you use it and it will all be pretty much logical and self-explanatory.
Good luck & greetinx,

ParticipantChuck,
Thanks for the detailed reply.
Using DVS with the SC2900’s would be good!! I don’t plan on taking the turntables out to gigs anyway. You can definitely do timecode with the MC6000 and VDJ, as I have done it before, basically exactly as you said. The only downside is that you lose 2 channels (3/4) on the controller. The latest firmware on the MC6000 brought in the feature to still send the input signal of channels 3/4 through to the soundcard when the upfader is down, so it works fine. Just use channels 1/2 to control the internal mixer. Although by the sounds of it the SC2900’s have a midi map built into Cross anyway, so I’ll try that as well!
Didn’t realise there was a 30 day trial, will definitely be trying it out at the weekend! Importing the Traktor database will be a timesaver as well!
Thanks again!

ParticipantI am hooked to Cross since version 2.4, there has grown a real alternative to Traktor and the other big players like VDJ etc.

KeymasterI have to say that after a first look I am really impressed with Cross and have decided to dig a little deeper.

ParticipantMan I think Mixvibes is underated by many djs, I hope this program grows up to be top 3/ top 5 dj programs ro use unless Serato/Virtualdj/Traktor buys them.

Thanks … and nope.
I do a lot of volunteer work for an organisation called A Sister’s Hope that raises money for breast cancer research (we raised over 3 million euro in the last 6 years). One of the events is the Pink Moon Walk & Run. Participants sign up for a fee and come to walk or run 5 miles on a route centered around this medieval castle (Muiderslot is a genuine Dutch monumental landmark) that is normally open to the public during the day, but closed at night.
We are very lucky to be allowed to use the castle for free one night a year, always early July.
The warm-up for the walkers/runners is done by my wife in the courtyard. After the walk/run the participants come back to the courtyard. By then it is (getting) dark. I have the whole place lit up in pink. Music going. There are speeches and prices and stuff. Not a party party, but more about creating atmosphere and a good vibe.Greetinx,
