KeymasterHmm with those things you are over the price point of a real controller.
Why not simply get something like a mixtrack pro or Denon MC 2000?July 16, 2013 at 8:05 am #42260djtoka
ParticipantSo the Mixtack Pro and Denon MC 2000 i get more bang for the buck with more compact build in features that also works well with traktor mapping? So either one of these and the FOCUSRITE SCARLETT 2I4 Audio Interface is enough? I will need to use the Focusrite also for a music production use with the macbook.

ParticipantIf you get a Mixtack Pro or Denon MC 2000 you don’t need the Focusrite for DJ’ing. for what you want to do I would get the Denon MC 2000 because it has a line in (aux)
Then you can hook up your speakers to the output of the Denon and hook up the Focusrite to the line in. That way you don’t have to move cables around when you want to DJ or Produce.July 16, 2013 at 12:18 pm #42266djtoka
ParticipantIf i get the Denon MC 2000 will it be future proof if i want to become more pro and start playing out with this setup? I want something beginner friendly and also that has the essential features to play gigs.

ParticipantDepending on what you mean pro? lots of Pro DJ use 2 CDJ 2000 and a mixer so only using 2 decks. Much of what they can do you can do on a Denon MC 2000 They for the most part only have better FX in the mixer and bigger controls.
When you start playing out you have a controller you know very well so you know the limitations and as you start getting some money from gigs you can then upgrade to something more(Pro)July 16, 2013 at 8:42 pm #42288Terry_42
KeymasterWell I think the MC 2000 can get you a far way.
I would not mix DJing and production gear. If you need a soundcard for production the Focusrite is a good choice, but you wont need it with the MC2000 as it has a good soundcard built in.
The Mixtrack Pro II gives you a few more options checking out other software too, if you are not yet totally set on Traktor.July 17, 2013 at 2:58 am #42296Ryan Gordon
ParticipantI actually just bought a MC2000 and I love it, I couldn’t run Serato because I have the glory if running Win8 -__- but I found a great mapping for traktor in 5 minutes online.

Good choice, that’s the one nobody here advised! Gotta love someone going his own way (and wonder why bother asking opinions is you already decided to get something entirely different).
Greetinx and good luck with your choice,

ParticipantSo i will buy the Traktor S2 controller. But another alternative would be to buy Traktor X1 Mk2 controller , Traktor Z1 mixer and Traktor Audio 2 soundcard. What is the best option in terms of mobility and compatible with the DJ booth in a club if i want to start playing in the clubs?

the s2 is the wiser choice .don’t rush though, for some extra cash you can get a tm4 which is miles better and for less you can get the tm2.playing at clubs also means that in some point you will ask yourself whther you would want to use the club equipment.so a controller with the same workflow would be ideal for a beginner with club inspiration ergo v(or limited version for traktor)

ParticipantThe biggest concern i have is the ability and flexibility to take the Traktor S2 to the clubs and hook it up or reconnect it to the current setup. Even if the Traktor S2 is not really big in size. I heard it easier to buy the modular kit consisting of Traktor X1 and Traktor Z1 mixer and just unplug your Traktor Z1 or Traktor Audio 2 so the next DJ can connect his soundcard fast. Also the benefits of this modular setup is that its easier to plugin to the clubs current setup than the Traktor S2 all in one controller. Im not really sure atm.. advice please:)

KeymasterWhy would it be easier to plug in?
No matter what controller you buy it will need 2 cables (most of the time RCA or XLR) to run to the clubs system. Period.
If you do not have enough space in the DJ booth to hook up your S2, mixtrack,… whatever, then you will not have enough space to work that modular setup. Also the modular setup actually is much more complicated to hook up as you prolly need a USB hub and have a lot more cable clutter.I actually do not get why those modular things appeal to anyone not using DVS. I can see why I want them when using a DVS system, but apart from that a single controller with 2 cables you need to hook up is much more easy.
Also the Traktor Kontrol S2 is becoming a bit dated… but whatever floats your boat. -
