I have no clue about the science of it. As you can tell by my profile pic I at least used to do it.

I jump, I dance, I act crazy. Monkey see, monkey do, right? If the DJ is acting more crazy than you no reason not to get loose :-).

Many DJs’are too static in my opinion. They really just stand there and look concentrated. Guessing it depends on the kind of DJ you are and for sure on the kind of gig. Most of my gigs they expect and like it if I lead the way in crazy party behavior 8-).

Well it is a classic, nothing to lough about.
If you have a well timed light show, know the song and there is this awesome break up flare. Add an uplighting flash and possibly a pyro effect, then by all means the pose is justified as people will go nuts if all is timed right.

Of course if you lightshow is total bull***, your music selection is boring and you usually do not move and want to awe people by throwing in the jesus, then it is laughable and sometimes even hilarious to see DJs do it.

    Do I do it?
Well on the wedding gig or a small gig with limited resources, no. I dance and I make gestures to the audience to animate them, but the jesus? no.
However in this big italian club I had a residency waaaaay back, the DJ booth was actually mobile, it would roll back and underneath was a swimming pool with fountains spraying uplighted water.
Well when it was time to roll the DJ booth back to give them the pool with fountains and I threw in that mega-hit, people went totally mental… then yes I did it, I admit and I do feel it was OK for that time.

Like Chuck said above, not sure if i’ve ever actually done the ‘Jesus’, but by God i’ve done some awful moves up in the box over the years, finger-pointing, one armed air-pumping, singin along to vocals, even a fair bit of air-guitar!!! (and i play house and disco!) And again as Chuck implies, if the DJ is up there givin it socks, the crowd are DEFO more inclined to get involved! I’m sure plenty of people over the years have said, ‘look at the state of that gobshite up there’, but i’ve also had many crowds rockin over that time so i’m happy enough and i aint changin!!! Jesus it up if ya feel like it! 🙂

I’ll do hands in the air, fist pumping, bouncing around like a mad man, etc. I’ve probably done a muted version of a Jesus pose but I don’t really recall. It’s not like I plan anything I do, I just enjoy the music. As Daryl said, quit watching the DJ and enjoy the music however you see fit.

I tend to do the Slipknot mosh when I get going, ie: head banging but keep the neck and back straight, and pivot from the hips.

I’m known for dancing maniacally behind the decks. Personally, I hate seeing DJs who just stand there and act all serious like their job isn’t ridiculously fun.

Jesus pose is too egotistical in my book. Plus I’ve never had a big receptive crowd so into me that they would get off on it.

I’m usually bouncing, dancing around, clapping my hands, hand in the air in a more subtle version of the fist pump, occasionally slapping a high-five with someone who does like what I’m doing.

You know, I’m thinkin’ – Jesus prolly never did the jesus pose…

I do any crazy think that springs to mind as I’m DJ’ing if I feel like Jesus posing I do it. If I get into a cold booth I definitely won’t be cold leaving it.
If someone is laughing at how someone else is preforming based on their moves, it might very well be the laughing persons limitations or insecurity. But that is also good for that person because it shows him/her their limits or how far they are willing to go. As Terry said a well times Jesus pose can be a highlight of a drop. Not much is happening with music as it building up the room/stage gets dark and the drop with explosion and bright lights all eyes are focused on the DJ’s Jesus pose. you know what at that time the DJ might have been God for all that matters. 😀
