Participantfrom my experience have something for everyone. its like a wedding (crowd wise) so youll see 5 yr olds all the way up to 70 yr olds. use clean versions (im sure you knew this) make sure your setup is easy to tear down in case it starts to rain.
try to have a tent or awning, daylight is hard on the electronics heat and visual wise. tie up your cables real good, no trip hazards! you will have tiny people running and playing by your gear!
have business cards on hand, no better time to get your name out. crowd interaction at block parties are always fun. maybe offer a raffle or prize for best dance (this works even better if you have business t-shirts,hats, cups etc…) people love free swag!

KeymasterYou can also prolly time the music a bit. If it starts early you have to play music that older people do not get intimidated by and is more relaxing/chill and you can raise the energy level and the music towards party music when the older (and youngest) are in bed.

E-Z Up saves the day … everytime! One of my best investment a few years back. Got me a 3x3m BLACK tent. It pitches up in about 5 minutes and keeps you dry, gives you some kind of “privacy” as in your own space, I can even move my speakers under if it starts to rain. Because I got the black version, even in full sunlight (I’ll pitch it at any outdoor event) I have much better sight on my laptop screen and on the lights on controllers and such. Love it!
And it looks pretty professional thanks to the black (white screams garden party! LOL).

ParticipantYou should try asking people who live on the block what they want to hear.
Seeing that it’s Philly you should get Philly based music such as “Boys II Men- Motown Philly” or “Bell Biv Devoe- Poison (remix)”.
I had a party for a bunch of people who came from philly, don’t know why they where in New York but anyway I play a bunch off philly tunes but what made the place go crazy was when I played “Will Smith- Fresh Prince of Bel Air Theme Song” Everyone even the New Yorkers went crazy, I had everyone singing that song, though you have to chose the right time to play it save it as your trump card… Which reminds me I should start a forum on Djs Trump Cards for music.July 10, 2013 at 4:19 pm #42103ElMuppet

ModeratorThink mine was in the 250 euro range or so? But I think I saw them on US sites for as low as 150 USD. We always get stuff way more expensive here :(). Look for E-Z Up Express II shelter.

I was confused because of all the possible tents on the side + no price tags.Yeah I totally agree with ya about prices. The most horrible thing is that you cant even do DIY because resources are even more expensive than product itself….EU dumbness

ParticipantThanks for all the feedback, after seeing Quest Love (and his awesome opening act) play at my work the other night it inspired me to do some hip-hop and r&b classics alongside side personal favorites as well as pop tunes, line dances, etc.

ParticipantQuestion, Milos. Do you know if Philly into Go Go Music like DC, MD, and VA? What about Line/Ballroom Dances? I know Detroit and Chicago are really into it, but I’m not sure about Philly, NY, etc.

ParticipantI’ll for sure do some line dances but gogo do you mean like Baltimore club jams? “Ride that wave”, “back it up and dump it” and songs of the sort if you’re familiar with them?

ParticipantI’m originally from ATL and I’m not really familiar with DC Go Go Music unless you asked me a little about Chuck Brown and DJ Kool…LOL. When Baltimore native, Frank Ski (formerly of V103 ATL), threw Northern Exposure parties several years ago I would get those quick fixes of Chicago House, DC Go Go, and Hip Hop music. Other than Northern Exposure and college parties where people from the Midwest, North and South partied I wasn’t too hip to the Go Go scene.
Oh, as far as line dances I was referring to the steppers line dancing that’s pretty big in Detroit and other places around the country. If you go to Youtube and look up M&M Pump Line Dance, Jamie Foxx I Don’t Need It Line Dance, etc. those are the dances I am referring to.
