Yep, never an easy answer :D.

What are the reasons for wanting to switch in the first place? What do you hope to get out of the new setup that you are not getting out of the current one?

to be honest i want more of a 4 deck control,

i play as the americans like to say edm..or in my language tech house, techno etc etc!!

just thought that the ssx is a step up from the denon, more control, more challanging..

as for the f1’s and z2, same as above..

You could consider the MC6000 which is 4-deck. And still a tad more affordable than the SX. Besides it seems, based on comments here and on the blog, that Traktor trumps Serato when it comes to pure EDM and based on it’s remix decks and high(er) quality and quantity of FX. But I may be wrong here, if so, I am sure Terry will shoot my *ss (again!).

As always I would start with making a list of all the features I’d be looking for in a new controller and my software. Then determine what combination would work best.

I have found that picking a piece of hardware and then finding all the arguments why you should have it works to the extend that your are happy when you finally buy it, but find out that it isn’t what you really needed. Have been there and done that, with many a torn t-shirt to testify to it :D.

Well, there is plenty of info on here and on the blog to get you the answers you think you need.

I think both are viable options. It depends totally on how your workflow is looking.
The MC6k is much more of a traditional controller and I would not want to use remix decks with it, without having at least 2 F1s.
The question is if you need remix decks.

On the other hand Serato offers some less effects (quality of Seratos new iZotope F/X is easily matching Traktor) and it has a more traditional sample deck approach. However using the DDJ-SX drum pads you can use the sample triggers of Serato to excellent effect. The question is if you are open minded enough to give Serato a try. (I switched from Traktor which Chuck always forgets… I have DJed on Traktor for quite some time and had an S4…)

Like so (he is not the best finger drummer in the world, but you can get the idea of what you can do):

cheers for the advise guys..i think what im after is a more cdj like system without spending the big cash on cdj’s (frankly they scare the life outa me!!) which is what is attracting me to the ddj ssx which combined with the as the four deck format…is winning!!!
i did look at the 6000 but i dont know..i just looks a bit squashed to me!! and it wouldnt really be a step up for me from a 3000 to a 6000.

as for trying serato, it makes no odds to me..i used virtual dj before trakor so to me a software system is a software system.

I always tell djs to wait, I want the pioneer djssx too but I’m pretty sure as soon as I buy it Pioneer going to come out with something even more spectacular the next month. If you have the money wait and explore your options, we wouldn’t want Pioneer or another company coming out with a new version of something that works with an additional software “RADJKFLDavdvaKNFLAK NUMARK!!! COUGH COUGH!!!” oh man I need to check my allergies.

I know … I have been waiting since the SL-1200 mkIIs ! I do believe I will make the leap somewhere between now and 2019 though. I am really getting close :D.

Is not really better than Serato,is just that been made with drum machine you don’t have to worry to much about beatgriding (sometimes you still have to make adjustments ) and the quantize ability in Traktor but Serato beatgriding with electronic music is about the same.

As for the FX, out of the what now 30+ FX in Traktor I used to use around five when I was playing strictly “EDM” and I’m happy with Serato FX’s now.

The only better part about the remix is the quantity and how is set up. Been able to choose between 1 or all 4 decks as remix, that’s awesome.

If you like that setup, by all means go with the DDJ-SX it is an awesome controller. I would not worry too much what is coming out next. I know a few DJs who play with older controllers than that (cough Chuck, cough, Chuck) and seem to do pretty well 😉

The thing is “buy when you need” and it looks like you need an upgrade, so go for it.

Gents, thanks for your help, this is the best website on the web and the friendliest forum ever, thank you,
I do have the money now to be honest but I have 1 question about serato, when you analyse tracks does it give you the key like traktor 2.6 does?

No. It does display the key (if the mp3 tag is filled) but it wont write or analyse it.

However I do not find the feature in VDJ or Traktor working really well and hence use MixedInKey.

    Thanks for the positive feedback!

I’d say buy Mixed in Key. Great tool, does energy level now too. And the Camelot wheel notation for me is far zuperior/easier than the traditional notation.

So it tells you the key in serato?

Like Terry said. If there is a key in the mp3 tag, it will display it. However Serato will not analyze your track to tell you what key it is. For that we suggest getting Mixed In Key.
