The only time I saw such a thing happen (actually on CDJs) was when we had a slight “brown out” in power and the CDJ got a little less power than usual, so it started to act up for a few seconds and then was back to normal. Possibly also can happen if all that gear is hanging on the same power outlet… (depending on how much lights you have)
I never had it playing with my controller (any I have used so far).
So I would not put it on the controller, unless there is actually something wrong with it. Do a little training session and see if it acts up again. What can always happen of course (but on any unit, not only controllers) is that it could be damaged or faulty.
Some people have also described such problems with heat problems. I have always a big fan with me, so no heat problems 😉
