I usually won’t tell someone I’m a DJ. I like to take a quick look at what the guy/girl is using, but then I back off and move on, or toss them a praise if they’re doing well.

As for the requests…yuk! Sounds like every event I was invited to play.

Promoter: Yeah, I want you to come in and play some deep house. Build a cool atmosphere.
    D-Jam: Cool.

*D-Jam gets 2 songs into his set, suddenly spoiled suburban bratty trixie clomps up in heer heels*

Trixie: Can you play ____________? (insert poppy tune that doesn’t flow with the music or the vibe the promoter wanted)

Trixie: Can you play something we can dance to?

Trixie: Are you going to play techno all night? (when I’m not playing techno)

Trixie: Can you play some hip-hop, like Britney Spears or Beyonce?

    Trixie: It’s my birthday…can you play ___________?

Trixie: I know the owner, so you have to play my request.

    AND MY ALL-TIME FAVORITE…

Promoter: Do me a favor, play that shit she wants to hear so I can get laid later. (despite how it killed his event and made chunks of the crowd leave)

Trixie always asks for ‘BBB’ in 2013, Britney Spears, Beyoncé or Bruno Mars. Before it was ‘BKK’ Britney Spears, Katy Perry, Kesha… Remember the days when she asked for ‘BLR’, Britney Spears, Lagy Gaga and Rihanna

Hah, red nose 😀 Never heard of the song before, and reading your story I immediately went to Rudolph the red nosed reindeer. Knowing myself, if someone had asked me to play red nose on a gig, I probably would have thrown good ol’ Rudolph in the mix.

If you’re a dj what the hell are you doing at my party? Why is another dj at another dj’s booth and not djing?

    Congrats for landing the residency!

Maybe your wrote that because dude was being a total goof, but I have to respectfully disagree with your sentiment here. One would think DJ’s go to clubs, weddings, etc. and take notes of what other DJ’s do so that they can improve on their craft. Like me, I’m sure you like to keep up with what tracks are heaters at clubs, weddings, private parties, etc. If that’s not the case I’m not sure how you were able to point out what other DJ’s are currently playing right? I won’t play someone’s set, but I do take mental notes about the pros and cons of other DJs. It can only make you a better DJ to know what moves the audience. Hence, why I like to come here and get advice from you good folks.

In any event, I did like your stories and the gig log. I’m always learning from you guys.

hahah good stuff but Red Nose goes in!! It’s a banger Hip/Hop track by Sage the Gemini. I just threw that into my last gig that was themed as a Midnight Twerk Fest and it set the place off!

Yeah now I know Lol, now wonder it was a female who requested it, some females need to leave that twerking at home in their room inside a shoe box. Personally I like females who actually dance and grind, I’m not into the twerk thing.

Thanks for the congrats. You are right that djs should learn from others djs although going to the both and peeking at what he is playing or using can be rude. Yes djs create a craft from learning from each other thus they can create their own craft but being behind a dj to see what they are doing is what I call stealing. That is what tutorials, books, blogs and the Ultimate website Digitaildjtips.com is for; so you can learn the craft their shouldn’t be a need for a wanna-be dj (which I knew he was because no dj would hold and liquid over his gear or any other dj’s gear). Hey they even have djing schools though they are expensive to take because of the equipment. Me I had to learn through “trial and era” and listening to the radio.

Wow, people really like the Red Nose song? Sounds like whoever produced the song was lazy and didn’t want to loop the beat for 3/4 of the track. I’m just in shock ppl like the song..lol.

I’m always astounded how people think Britney Spears is talented and believe her music is good.

Well you never know it may come in handy, she might come back and request it, I’ll see if I can remix it some how.
