I would look into active speakers and ditch the power mixer.

    Hey Chris,

What is it you intend to do with your PA? Just DJ gigs or are you doing any live sound work too? What role is the mixer playing (for you)?

I have a very strong urge to agree with Terry. I am not, and have never been, a power mixer kinda guy. They are bulky, heavy and the room the amp (controls) take is not going into other things you’d want/like in a PA mixer.

If the only reason you have the power mixer is so you can run your DJ set through it and power your JBL’s, then ditching the mixer and JBL’s and going for some active speakers is the most advisable option.

If you have more/bigger needs, let us know so we can give you some more specific pointers.

    Greetinx,
    C.

I have the powered mixer setup because of Best Buy’s advice. I dont have any personal attachment to that setup, I think I am going to go with Behringer Eurolive B215D. they are actually powered unlike the stagepas 500 which the guys at best buy told me was powered. I am doing all djing, i get calls for gigs and roll out and play. Will i be able to use the jbl 518s subwoofer with the Eurolives without any issues? What do you guys think about this gear?

    Hey,

The Behringers look good on paper, haven’t heard them yet. But quite a bit of bang for the buck by the looks of it.
You can use the EON sub without any problems I think. Might need a few new cables though :-).

You run two XLR cables from your master output to your sub (you connect both L and R to the sub!), switch the sub to HPF (High Pass Filter) and connect two XLR cables to the sub outputs. These go, 1 each, to the Behringers. Presto, lows up to 120Hz (I think that is the crossover for the EON sub) through the sub, the rest from the Behringers.

Good luck with your choice & greetinx,
    C.
