What about Pioneer DDJ SX ? It is a bit more expensive than vsi 400 (kinda 1000€) but imho best 4 deck midi conroller out there. U’ll get those 16 pads so you won’t need any extra hardware… But it comes with serato if thats the case.

However the SX is not really portable…
The VCI-400 is excellent for four decks and still portable enough.

Totally agree about the size but it is pretty light. And yeah i missed the portability part. My bad. The VCI 400 will do then.

Is it better to go with a vci-400 with an all in one package or get an n4 and perhaps a f1 on the side? I also got an Akai mpk mini laying around at home..

Imho if you buy n4 you won’t get anything really awesome because when you pay less than 400€ on a controller you can only expect plastic kinda c***. If you need something portable why not Traktor Kontrol S4? It is nice, not that big and light due to plastic as a main material. And it is MADE FOR traktor. If you want you can add f1 and have 2 devices from the same manufacturer. If you somehow wanna pick one out of your suggestions then i recommend you VCI 400.

Also, I see mpk mini more like a portable production device but ok, knobs and pads may be useful for effects too. But I have no clue how they work with trakor.

Sometimes is just better to save up some cash and then buy something better, specially in music industry. For example, I bought hi-fi speakers (kinda 1500€ ea) and then a very good cable for them. I almost dropped dead when I was told that it cost pretty much like speakers.

From what I have heard about the S4, it´s outdated and overpriced made in plastic and overall low quality knobs and faders. Yes it is tight with Traktor and but still any other controller should do the same work, except for scratching. According to the MPK mini it´s still a midi-controller. I have mapped it myself to be a four-deck controller, fully playable but with a lot of drawbacks hehe 🙂 I guess I might go with the VCI-400 for now, seems like the best shot but I still wonder why this controller isn´t as popular as the others on the buyers market :O

Never used VCI-400 so I can’t comment on that.

I think DDJ-SX is a dream. Had a play on one the other day and love it, but I like my S2 too much just to up sticks and convert. I also have a (personal) issue with using controllers designed for one software with a different software, as I always feel they will never reach full potential, but that is just me.

I have an S2, F1 and X1, and really can’t fault NI hardware. I know lots of people have had issues, but for me they have been brilliant.

All in one solutions are great, but they also tie you down. I like my setup at the minute, because depending on what the event is I can take as much or as little as I fancy.

On the other hand if you get an all in one with standalone mixer functionality you can add TT’s.

You also mentioned trying out the remix decks. The only way to control these properly is by using the NI F1.

Most importantly, if you have a shop near by where you can go have a play on all the options then that would be ideal as it is all down to personal preference.
Just be careful with what the sales assistants recommend as they have a less impartial view than people who won’t profit from your decision.

Agree with Ess about DDJ-SX and shoping stuff….I just mentioned S4 cuz of popularity

Simply hate looking for new stuff cuz I’m always scouting to much 😉 But how do you feel towards the S2, do you feel limited with two decks? Or have you set up the X1 as one deck and F1 as remix deck resulting in 4 decks :O?

Hold on a sec, the Numark N4 is a great 4 deck dj controller. Yes it’s made out of plastic but that is just about the bad thing about it. The and N4 is also a stand alone mixer(So you can add turn tables or cdj if you want), it works with virtual dj, traktor and serato dj intro(serato dj this summer). Don’t listen or read bias reviews just because djs have one thing and don’t have the other. If you really want to know what you want to get you have to do research on websites. Every controller has it’s ups and downs no controller is better than any controller out there. Only the dj makes best of what he/she can do with their equipment.

I like to show you proof, here is me using the Numark N4 with music videos

If you want me to show you a more in depth video of me djing on the numark n4 let me know.

Personally I am a Traktor guy so I would suggest the Traktor Kontrol S4. I have the S2 and love it! The DDJ – SX is also a great option. I wish i was lucky enough to have one but I just don’t know if i could make the switch to Serato. Just go to a local music store like guitar center and try both out!

I dont have any local guitar center or music store with dj equipment therefor i only have reviews and others opinion to rely on.. :/ My main concern is if I should build up with every component seperated or an all in one option.. I want to map everything myself so that is not an issue and guess im going for a four decker since I want something that will last and I am not looking to upgrade again in the nearest future.

Well if you get the Traktor Kontrol S4 you can then also purchase other accessories such as a F1, Midi Fighter, etc. The only other option to have a setup that you “Build Yourself” would be CDJs and a mixer. That would be a KILLER setup but it would cost ALOT especially if you go with 4 decks. It also would not be very portable unless you bought a very large and heavy flight case for it all.

Nice. THAT is nice. I was just trying to say that some controllers just give you more options than the others. You are really good using N4 but it doesn’t mean that you get same amount of stuff from two different controllers out of the box. I guess faders last longers on some controllers and sometimes they are replacable. Those little things make your gear last longer and in conjunction with careful usage u get really nice device.

    Great vid btw!
