ModeratorAt close to 200 dollars I think a lot of the DDJT readership (especially the younger, starting and bedroom DJs) will have to think twice about it. Not saying the course is expensive, but it is a LOT of money for many, especially these days.
But yeah Kevin, keep an eye on that mailbox and a hand on your credit card :-).

ParticipantI agree the price may put off some (or a lot) of the DDJ readers but if this was my job or I was thinking of making a career of DJing this course would be a no brainer. The digital era has made becoming a DJ much easier. We all know the reasons why and because of this “everyone is a DJ” these days. If paying $197 is going to give you the edge over your competitors then it’s a small price to pay. It’s not just about throwing a baby scratch over a track, as Phil & Steve say, you will learn so much more.
I intend to do the course. I’m not a DJ (well haven’t been for 15 years or so) but I still love messing around and the digital controllers have reignited my passion for music and mixing.
One (tongue in cheek) request for Phil & Steve can you teach us the “Live at Union Square” set that Jazzy Jeff (my hero) does on He’s the DJ I’m the Rapper album from 1988. That’s what made me go out and buy 2xSL1210’s and a citronic mixer……ah those were the days JMarch 6, 2013 at 6:36 am #37637DJ Vintage
ModeratorI am not disputing that, I am contemplating taking it myself :-). Was just trying to comfort Kevin’s anxiety of maybe missing out because of the 1000s of people just dying to take it. Offering a bit of relativity to that.
Granted, they market it well.

KeymasterNiuo2kevin:
Yes, all our courses are sold separately.
All students can ask questions on every single step of the training and get personal tutor responses, as well as share tips etc in the private student forum within the course, so it’s a really rich learning resource. That’s why spaces are limited and the price is a little higher – we need to guarantee that personal interactionm as scratching is something that needs to be taught properly.
Don’t stress re limited places – just watch your email inbox and we’ll tell you the second it goes live.
Chuck:
Yes, we’re aware of that, which is why we have courses starting from $9! But to offer this level of training we need to charge a little more (still a tenth of the price of a big-name scratch course). We try and offer stuff at all levels for all DJs.
Also, I have to echo Brian’s sentiments. What’s the interest on a credit card for $200 over 6 months? $5? Anyone who’s really determined will find the money and pay for the course out of their first gig when they perfect these skills! Sometimes you have to invest to get forward. 🙂
Bottom line is: We’re really excited about this one, it’s the best thing we’ve ever done, and we’re going to make it an awesome experience for everyone who can get on the course this time around. As there are currently no plans to do it again, this is a really special opportunity 🙂

ModeratorHi Phil,
I am totally good with the offerings you have and I agree that the scratch course is well priced. Again, no dispute there. And if you are serious about this business (and able to buy controllers and laptops :)) you’d do well to invest in this course. As I said, I am seriously contemplating doing it myself.
Keep up the good work.

ParticipantGreetinx,
Sorry if my post came across a bit heavy handed it was not intended to be so 🙂
I agree with your advice.I like the sound of the student feedback/interaction aspect of the course. Getting support and advice from peers will be a great help.

ParticipantPhil could you tell me how the course would differ from say qberts scratch university??
will there be controler specific techniques that will help those of us who are perhaps stuggling to convert real turntalbist techniques into something that would work on a controler?
March 7, 2013 at 8:52 am #37693Terry_42
KeymasterYes Connor, the main difference is: This course is dedicated to controllers. Every step is done using a controller.
So there will be no need to translate something that someone is showing you on a turntable, as everything is shown on a controller directly.
Plus you get everything you need to do it. All the scratch samples, sounds, loops, beat tracks etc. are included and downloadable. So beside your controller and DJ software, there is nothing more you need. Everything else is provided for you.March 7, 2013 at 9:55 am #37698Showbiz Connor

ParticipantSo guys, how’s everyone getting on with the course??
I’m finding it great, I spent a little while working out which hand would be my scratching hand, I chose left so that I can keep my stronger hand for the crossfader work,
I’m practicing the baby scratch pattern’s at the different tempos and have already managed to get a good few hours drilling the basic movements,
How about everybody else??
